Tea Party Activists Show up in Searchlight, Nevada, to Send a Message to Harry Reid: Showdown in Searchlight, Nevada! (PHOTOS) UPDATED, More Pictures

by the Left Coast Rebel

(Editor’s Note) Welcome Gateway Pundit readers, be sure to catch Sarah Palin’s Searchlight video and follow the Left Coast Rebel via the Google ‘follower’ tab in the sidebar.

Tea Party activists are gathering in Searchlight, Nevada to send a message to one of the most arrogant, statist, incompetent and powerful pols in the nation – Harry ‘Dingy’ Reid. Organizers of Showdown in Searchlight predict that the crowd may swell to over 10,000 patriots from all walks of life. Way to go guys!

Robert Stacy McCain is at the event and will be covering it. MAinfo is at the event and will be taking pictures and sending them to her site from her Blackberry. She is stuck in traffic on the way to Searchlight as I speak:

I wish that I could have attended as well. Speakers today include one of my favorite libertarian/conservatives – a.m. talker Jerry Doyle, Libertarian Wayne Allen Root, Sarah Palin, San Diego’s gem Roger Hedgecock and many more. Stay tuned for updates…..

UPDATED: The AP has a story this morning, Nevada tea party candidate facing felony charges. Since this is the top thread at Memeorandum at the moment, I delved into it a bit. My first instinct was that this guy is the bogus Tea Party candidate that is actually a Democrat and the same guy that the Tea Party movement has disassociated itself from. I’m right! Via Gateway Pundit:

Fake tea party candidate Scott Ashjian, a Nevada asphalt contractor running for US Senate in Nevada, was charged Friday with felony theft and bad check charges in Las Vegas. The fake tea partier allegedly bounced a $5,000 business check last year.

On top of that the Tea Party Express released a video telling faker Scott Ashjian to get lost:

UPDATED x3: In the mail, Levi Russel at Tea Party Express:

Harry Reid Supporters Egg Tea Party Express Buses in Route

Supporters of Senator Harry Reid have just thrown eggs at the Tea Party Express bus caravan – striking at least one of the three buses (the red Tea Party Express bus) with multiple eggs.

About 35 Reid supporters had lined Highway 95 in front of the Nugget Casino in Searchlight where they were attempting a counter-demonstration the tens of thousands of tea party supporters who are gathering for the “Showdown in Searchlight.”

More details to follow…
The tolerant, peaceful left? Why does this not surprise me. Since there are just 35 Harry Reid supporters, perhaps they think that egg-throwing will add legitimacy to their sad cause. Who do you think has ‘egg on their face’ in the end? Readers – search for photographs of the egg-throwers and send them my way!

UPDATED x4: Kate Zernike at the NYT smears Tea Party activists today as jobless neanderthals with too much time on their hands. She simply thinks that the Tea Party movement will fade away once all of you idiots find employment! Do me a favor. Do as I did. Send an email to Kate Zernike expressing your displeasure with her piece. Do so cordially and respectfully. Here is what I wrote to her:

Dear Madam,

Although your Times piece today on the Tea Party movement does express some good points, I find that you work your way around to smear the movement with the ‘jobless’ angle. What you assert simply is not true. I am a Tea Party activist and gainfully employed as are the vast majority of my friends that are Tea Party activists as well. In fact, even my grandmother is a Tea Partier and she is retired. Does this ‘jobless’ meme apply to her too? I find it wildly unfair that you would smear the movement in this fashion. I hope you consider my opinion.

UPDATED x5: Kate Zernike of the Times responds relatively politely to my cordial request:

nyt email

Dear Mr. Dano,

Thanks for writing. I’m not sure how being jobless (or otherwise hit hard by the economy) is a “smear.” This was just something I have observed in probably hundreds of interviews. You’re right, it’s not all, but as the story said, I have heard similar stories over and over.
Kate Zernike
I responded to Kate Zernike:
Dear Madam,
Thank you for your prompt and cordial reply. As I posited in my previous letter, your piece did express several valid points. The current recession certainly explains part of the Tea Party movement’s momentum. But it is explicitly because many in the Tea Party believe that current government policy is exacerbating and increasing the length and degree of the recession. In fact, many Tea Party activists feel that the Obama administration and Congress are taking advantage of the recession to institute wildly unpopular legislation. They also felt this way during the final year of the Bush administration.

UPDATED x6: I found Sarah Palin’s speech at Searchlight, if you didn’t see it headlining LCR, here it is:

UPDATED x7: I neglected to mention, you can follow everything today via. Twitter #searchlight hashtag. Pajamas TV is live streaming the Searchlight event. You have to sign up to watch the video but is easy to do and free. Joe Wurzelbacher is on the stage right now and he is doing suprisingly well. I haven’t heard him speak live before like this and he is a decent speaker. No teleprompter in sight! Chuck DeVore is now taking the stage at 2:00 PST….2:05 PST, wow – Chuck DeVore rocks, a strong voice, he just said that we cannot bury our children under the debt that we are building and that we can rebuild the GOP from within.

UPDATED x8: Fox News just reported (2:30 PST) that the crowd was well in excess of 10,000 people, I am hearing close to 30,000. FN mentioned that it was mayhem to get to the Showdown in Searchlight event – the traffic was terrible. These photos from TwitPic confirm:

  1. Did you read the article at the new york times that basically said Tea Party people are unemployed ignoramuses?

  2. Wow.

I just read that NYT article, and this one really stood out for me –

"He and others do not see any contradictions in their arguments for smaller government even as they argue that it should do more to prevent job loss or cuts to Medicare. After a year of angry debate, emotion outweighs fact."

Really? Hmm… seems to me if the government cut medicare, that's smaller government… and if they cut taxes and allowed businesses to hire and invest more, that's smaller government… but let's not let facts get in the way of emotions….

  3. I read the one from Paul Krugman about how he enjoyed watching the right wingers go nuts. Wonder if he'll enjoy it when we go wild with victory in November.

  4. @Soloman:
Read my article about the cost of Obamacare. AT&T will lose 1 billion next quarter. How does this help jobs?

  5. I love the donation centers!

  6. I don't like what Obama is doing to the country but Palin scares me too —- I hope a more moderate person than Palin surfaces who can defeat Obama.

  7. Dear Lord! I'm sitting in TN on my butt, but I am so damn proud of my Country Men/Women. Long life the Tea Party!!

Thank you fellow Americans. I'll be at the next one.

  8. Loved the guy with the sign about tar and needing feathers and a pitchfork. Wish I could have been there. About the guys request, if you could find Harry Reid you know he would be surrounded by turkeys.

  9. LCR, thanks for linking. I got back and plugged in my Blackberry. I was in the red zone with the battery, I didn't know that it would run down so quickly searching for the cell tower like that. More pics are up now on MAinfo if you want to check it out.

Great job finding the pics. Glad someone like you is scouring the net to cover the story the mainstream media wants to cover up.

We have the video up on CC as well…

    Common Cents

  11. I am proud too. I am a senior whose Medicare and Social Security will be affected. Joined Resistnet to just do something. We need to come together about the major things i.e. Repubs, Libertarians, Conservatives, Indies, and any other patriot and call ourselves a new name. One that grabs something from each one of those party or idea labels. We cannot be purists, we must see the big picture as our goal. Again, the TPs are tremendous. From Missouri.

  12. I found it sad that people on the right want to defend socialist institutions like medicare and SS. We need to get out of the mentality that the government owes anything tangible such as that. To do so is to support their argument that we need to be taken care of like farm animals.

  13. How many people showed up, do you think? Looked like a lot to me.

  14. We made it to the 4th July Tea Party at South Fork Ranch, and took some pictures while we were there. I really wish I could find the one that has the poster of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and some other politician; the slogan read "The Axis of Evil."

I'm proud to be an American, and very proud of my father (WWII) and my son's (Iraq) service in the armed forces, but I'm very ashamed of how the government has purported itself, how the world–our allies–are beginning to see us, and I cannot wait for November so that this nation may truly find the change that her red-blooded Americans deserve.

  15. I feel enlighted, Im no , lets see published ( just kidding ) As the author and creator of the Harry Ried Donation Center sign and the Nancy Pelosi Suggestion box, I appreciated the photos. We met alot of great people in Searchlight. It was not the most appropiate spot but it was there to send a message. If these people would wait in traffic , walk miles just to be part of the Tea Party, what do you think they would be willing to do come Nov . Looking forward to the next gathering and also looking forward to NOV.
The port of pottys that had the signs on them were pretty busy. I think Harry and Nancy should be occupied awhile going through thier donations and suggestions.
