As a blogger with a growing voice, each day is a constant struggle; a chase to put out fires, (or try to get to the bottom of), the most preposterous news items and political stories ever to grace American wires.
And today we truly do have the one that takes the cake of them all, Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
Yes, I am serious; for what you may ask? May it be for escalating the war in Afghanistan and certainly not following through on promises to exit Iraq? From the UK Timesonline –
Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent. It was
clearly seen by the Norwegian Nobel committee as a way of expressing European
gratitude for an end to the Bush Administration, approval for the election of
America’s first black president and hope that Washington will honour its promise
to re-engage with the world. Instead, the prize risks looking preposterous in
its claims, patronising in its intentions and demeaning in its attempt to build
up a man who has barely begun his period in office, let alone achieved any
tangible outcome for peace.
In other words, he won the prize because he’s a leftist, because he’s not white and because he’s not Bush. Also, an international nod to the messianic-worship cult of personality. And of course the New York Times sees nothing but goodness in this story. Gushing, shall we say? That is why I put up the UK Timesonline. At least Reuters is even-handed enough to mention that this news has brought ‘mixed reviews’. But then again who am I to say that the Taliban shouldn’t be used as a source?
James at Reaganite has a great roundup as well –
Meanwhile, what he’s proposing -“a world without nuclear weapons”- is unfortunately not a goal shared by those most likely to use them in Tehran and Pyongyang, not to mention up-and-coming wannabes in Caracas and elsewhere….Along with Obama’s lack of support for defensive missile technologies… how is this any different than unilateral disarmament/capitulation to these vile, aggressive regimes?

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. I still can't.
The man has done nothing deserving of such an honor.
But then again, Carter won it for solving that pesky little North Korean/nuclear weapons problem, didn't he?

I've had a headache since I read it this morning. How do you get a nomination after only 11 days in office? We could say that Soros won the NPP because BHO is his mouthpiece.
George Bush is more deserving of this.
The Nobel Peace Prize has now hit a new low. It's become the equivalent of winning a Teen Choice Award.
When Obama was able to get a Boston cop and a Harvard professor to sit down and have a beer and peanuts together, I knew the Nobel Prize would soon follow. He is well on his way towards an Oscar, Grammy, and Moon Man.
UK Times Online seems a bit naive. This award has been used to reward partisan hacks like Jimmy Carter and Al Gore. It's a tool to reward those who destroy America.
At this point the NPP is the equivalent of the Razzies. The Norwegian Poindexters are just too dim-witted to grasp that.
What was the point of his Rose Garden speech? Did I mishear him say he is ending a war?! What? When? How? Will this 14th place trophy give him confidence to make an actual decision? My teenager threw her slipper at the TV this morning and yelled at the top of her lungs, "There is no hope for these idiots! We as humans are truly entirely to stupid to survive! I am going to go to school now, and get dumber by the hour!" How do we encourage our kids when stupidity on a global level is happening daily?
I'd forgotten about the beers in the White House! And here I thought he hadn't done anything to earn the award!
I give more credence to the "Student of the Month" bumper stickers so often seen. I assume that the kids did, at least SOMETHING worthy of recognition.
Personally I think its his symbolic election that got him this nomination. Do you think he has actually accomplished enough during his nine months in office to deserve this prize? Vote here >>> http://www.dipoll.com/index.php?poll_id=527
I don't think Obama deserved to win…yet. It's a well done so far and keep going from the Nobel Committee. They want Obama to deliver on his promises and have awarded him ahead of actually achieveing anything!! I have written a blog post on the topic, 'Will the real President Obama please stand up?' if anyone wants to take a look http://wp.me/pCIZY-Y
