How about this one for sheer Orwellian-ness and bizarre? Via Breitbart, Beijing AP:
The Chinese have learned English from his speeches and celebrated the “fearless” way he rolls up his sleeves. Now President Barack Obama is finally coming, and he’s being greeted with “Oba Mao” T-shirts and a statue of him that bursts into flames.
Sunday’s arrival of a U.S. president admired for his charisma is already a source of profit and brief fame for some Chinese.
Strangest is the burning Obama,(above), tucked away in a Beijing warehouse. Artist Liu Bolin hopes Obama can take time from his visit to drop by.
“Yes, setting something on fire can have negative connotations, but this piece represents energy and life that Obama has given to the world,” said the 38-year-old, who made a similar piece for former revolutionary leader Mao Zedong.
One Beijing shop owner wanted to see what Obama could do for sales. Liu Mingjie created “Oba Mao” T-shirts, with the president wearing the uniform of the Red Guards, who caused chaos during the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s.
At Beijing’s epicenter of kitsch, the Silk Street market, shop girls giggled at requests for Obama products.
“Obama! She wants Obama!”
Good grief. Just as I said in the Mohammed 9/11 trial post, I want my peace and mind country back. I want normal. I want sanity. I don’t want Oba Mao and the horror that a culture that knows just what this means represents.
How about the way that the AP shows that the Chinese love the “fearless” way that he rolls up his sleaves? Fearless?
Boy do I feel ronery, oh so ronery in this brave new world that we live in. Remember my Oba Mao apparel post recently too? Well after doing a little searching today I found that the phenomenom is not unique to Beijing. It’s right in our own backyard. DC to be precise. On the racks in a shop close to the capitol, according to Looking at the Left.com:
I do like the beer one……..
Oba Che?
lmao….obama on fire….(*ponders*)
ReplyDeleteThe top middle tee shirt should have said Democrats make better hookers. I hear Barney Frank is quite into that stuff. Nancy Pelosi looks like she was a street walker for 30 years before she got elected to the House. Let's see, there's Spitzer too. Don't forget slick Willie; he paid for his with a cigar, a dress and an impeachment. And then there's all of Hollywood…need I say more?
ReplyDeleteThose that supported BO, take a look at what a country with some of the worse human rights abuses on the planet is adulating him. What does this tell you about what they think of the man? If one doesn't realize he's a pure socialists with the downfall of China's biggest enemy (perhaps behind Japan since they have the will to fight), then I can finally realize how and why we voted this creep in. I wonder if the Chinese realize how big of fools they look over the worship of this fraud?
ReplyDeleteLCR, you must remember the Bicentennial and all of that kitsch memorabilia? I mean, despite marking the 200th anniversary of this country, that stuff was truly a horrid collection of crap intended to capture a hefty sice of the American wallet.
ReplyDeleteLook on this as yet another unseemly invasion into our now meager revenue stream. Like the Bicentennial over-extravaganza which heralded the onset of the Carter years, this too will pass..
..and hopefully end in another horrendous cataclysm for the Democrats and Obama in four years.
..oh, and I just remembered: the guy got the flaming statue right, just the wrong part. It should been a lot further South.
ReplyDeleteMadmath, even the Europeans don't like Obama now. They complained about "far right Bush" and his "cowboy diplomacy". Let's see how they like the US having a President that will not defend them as he is missing a pair.
ReplyDeleteOk, you know it's REALLY bad when the Chinese compare Obama to a communist whose policies caused the deaths of 50-70 million people.
ReplyDeleteIt's sick how people worship Obama as if he is infallible.
@ Cmoursler – I know what you mean, hehe.
ReplyDelete@ Andrew – Why don't we start our own t-shirt line?
@ Madmath – Exactly, but then to realize these things requires some critical thinking.
@ Boncka – 4 years? I'm hoping for 2010.
@ Obama Nation – Isn't it? What does that tell us?
What would be in the drink? "A Flaming Obama"? The mind simmers with possibilities…a flaming Dr. Pepper followed by a cold TsingTao for a chaser.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to be on fire, we'll be happy to oblige … [huge grin]
ReplyDelete"OBA MAO"
ReplyDeleteWhat does it tell you?
The young China also wants a change and they still have HOPE. At least they make money with him there. Not so much you can say there in USA.
@ vicarious – That is not even remotely what it tells me and my readers. What it tells me is that Barack Obama philosophically resembles your leader, Chairman Mao.
