It’s always surprising and worth noting when a person in Hollywood stands up for any semblence of common sense or conservative ideals. Voight starred in Mission Impossible, Rainmaker, (my favorite), National Treasure along with many other films since the 1970’s and is the father of Angelina Jolie. The unlikely champion of Republicanism was in his youth, a vehement liberal and an anti-war activist. These things he now attributes to Marxist propaganda here.
So Voight was at the Congressional fundraiser as well yesterday and offered up a great speech above.
Highlights –
“Obama’s path to the presidency has been thoroughly documented, we may want to look ath those strategies as we come to the 2010 election, never mind that it was as clear as the nose on your face who Obama was attached to, it was amazing to me how young people and the media were taken in by Obama’s false ‘haloistic’ presence….Obama portrayed himself as a moderate but turned out to be wildly radical…”

More – “Obama’s so-called stimulus package and budget will leave our grandchildren with great burdens and great debts, the government is now owning car companies and banks…. the government wants to run health care and tell people which doctors they can see, how much they can make, what cars to drive and they are killing off the entrepenuers that are the backbone of our economy….let’s bring an end to this false prophet Obama……”

Fantastic…hard to believe that he is the Daddy of Angelina Jolie. I also loved Newt's speech. Posted my favorite parts of it on my blog. I don't really know that much about Newt, I know who he is, but not much about him, but the speech was great.
KOOK – It was a great speech, Newt is a bit of a mixed bag though, it's still nice to hear such things!
Jon Voight was on O'Reilly tonight. O'Reilly seemed to be trying to corner Voight on certain issues I assume to appear "fair and balanced". Voight held his own. I always enjoy when someone in Hollywood comes out of the liberal closet.
KOOK: Newt Gingrich was the Speaker of the House in the 90's and helped draft The Contract with America in 1994, outlining what the Republican Party wanted to accomplish since they had just won both houses of Congress. He remained a thorn in Clinton's side and also served as the left's whipping boy since G.W. hadn't made the scene yet.
A good speaker, he has, in my opinion, moved a LITTLE more towards center than I would prefer. Still, he is interesting to listen to.
blackandgold – I agree, a little too close to the center, but interesting sometimes…
All I can think of is that scene in "There Will Be Blood". "I AM A FALSE PROPHET!!!!"
I'm a big Voight fan, dating back as far as "Deliverance".
Well, there's a glimmer of hope that Hollywood will wake up and smell the Latte. I'm sure he's not the only one, but is the only one speaking because it will be interesting to see the backlash in his career after this.
I'm shocked to learn that he's Jolie's father. For a man that seems to have his head on right, his daughter is a complete nut job. Sometimes the apple does fall far from the tree I guess.
Loved his speech, even though his career is dead in Hollywood. For he is probably on about 100 black list by now.
But, nonetheless, one person with commonsense and the spine to say what needs to be said about Obama.
Hear, hear, Mr. Voight. I think his career will be just fine. There are more conservatives in Hollywood than we suspect.
Amen brother, I also blogged on this today
…like a cool summer breeze blowing in off the ocean…
That's what his words are to me!
fabulous!
Madmath – I agree
Cons Scal – Indeed, major guts….
Cube – I think you are right, most are 'in the closet' so to speak, afraid to come out…
INGTI – Great minds think alike!
Susannah – It's nice to hear sense from somoeone in Hollyweird….
