Taxpayer Dollars for Chinese Hookers, Cash For Clunkers?

Two stories crossing my desk in the last few days that cover the ridiculous, preposterous, fiscal incompetence that our government is heralding through. This fiscal malfeasance seems to be coming to a head, a turning point shall I say, when one sees stories like I am about to show. It’s as if our ‘leaders’ are so brazen at this turn in our history that there isn’t even the slightest semblance of fiscal sanity in the upper echelons of our government. Naked displays of the ”the political allocation of wealth and opportunity” as George Will put it in his recent brilliant column here.

Speaking of naked – I bring your attention to this story here, “NIH Funds $2.6 Million Study to Get Prostitutes in China to Drink Less.”

No, folks this is not a joke, (although laughingly pathetic), our own Federal government is spending $2.6 million of our tax-dollars to make sure that prostitutes in China drink less on the job. Bankrolled by the National Institute of Health, the program is aimed at studying 700 prostitutes, (in China no-less), then using the findings to help prevent HIV. Is Ted Kennedy leading the studies? I’m sure he wishes he was. It doesn’t say here. What it does say however is that the study looks at ‘why prostitutes engage in dangerous sex while drunk.’ Sex is dangerous, or more so for Chinese hookers only when they are tipsy? Is the world upside down?

The next story here is from the ‘green’ section of the lovely MSNBC website. The title of said article? “Congress Considers ‘Cash for Clunkers’ Proposal.” The article I am reading here is saying that the bill would basically give drivers ”vouchers of up to $4,500 when they turn in their old fuel-inefficient vehicles for scrapping and buy vehicles that get good gas mileage.” Also, ” People could also turn in their old cars for vouchers that could be used to ride public buses and trains.” Wow, even on the surface, that must be the most stupid, open-ended to corruption, nonsensical, pie-in-the-sky proposal I have heard of. Even worse than spending tax-dollars on booze-free Chinese hookers.

And why is this worse than paying for keeping the ‘sauce’ out of the hands of Chinese prostitutes? Price tag folks.RINO Olympia Snowe – “The bill envisions the program operating for four years and encouraging the retirement of up to one million vehicles a year.” According to the bill that is being floated around, owners of vehicles with fuel economy ratings of 18 or less would get somewhere between $4500, or $2000, either cash or a credit for a new car. Corruption, abuse, fraud, waste, in a program like this? Nah, not with these guys at the helm with our tax-dollars. To get an idea of the costs here, multiply 1 million vehicles per year by an average of say $3,000, then multiply by 4 years. The total? 12 billion dollars. How much should we multiply this to account for fraud, ineptitude, waste, etc? I’d say 2x would do, which then = 24 billion dollars. All without even batting an eye, out of thin air, printed, inflated and taxed onto future generations…..

Quote of the day from the beloved Senator Chuckie Schumer Democrat of NY and co-sponsor of the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ bill – “This is an even better trade-in offer than they could get from any car dealership.” I am speechless. Atlas Shrugging, check, check, check.

Update 1: I was doing a little searching after I wrote this piece and I found that there are already businesses waiting to stand in line if this law is to pass. I actually found a site Cash for Clunkers set up by online car dealers Dealix and Usedcar.com. These guys are lining up like oinkers at the trough to get their grubby little piggy fingers on these greasy federal dollars. Surprised?

Those clunkers are not worth all that. And why are the taxpayers on the hook for clunkers and prostitutes? Ridiculous!

Hey… I’ve got two dead clunkers. I could get a bran new Aveo for just under the total. Such a deal… and I’m sure that you guys don’t mind paying for it. At least I’m not a drunk Chinese hooker!

ananda – haha, at least we can find humor in such things!

Amazing what’s going on in Washington isn’t it! I couldn’t believe the Hooker story when Phil in Wisconsin (the quiet half of Bungalow Bill’s Conservative Wisdom) sent me the details. I wonder if the politicians in Washington are getting special favors from these ladies of the night.

BB – I couldnt believe this story either and a friend sent it to me as well! Like I said, it sounds like Ted Kennedy is ‘behind’ this…..

If the government were running at a surplus, I could see “cash for clunkers.” There would be tangible benefit to the environment if there were fewer old junky cars out there. It still wouldn’t be my preference for what to do with a surplus (buying back old debt would be) but at that point, it woiuld be a defensible program.

But we are not in prosperous times and we simply cannot afford this sort of thing right now. Politicians of both parties need to stop acting as though the deficit doesn’t matter.

Drunken Chinese prostitutes, however, are pretty clearly China’s problem and not ours. Surely, we have plenty of drunk prostitutes of our own.

Transplanted Lawyer – Great points, I tend to agree that one could argue the merits of a sort of program like the ‘cash for clunkers’, albeit I would still be against it. However, as you say, it is preposterous that the feds are concocting things like this in our current times. Also, aren’t the best prostitutes drunk anyway?

I was hoping you understood that I was being sarcastic. It’s hard for me to convey that in text. (You did get that didn’t you?)

I see no justification at all for tossing money into Chinese hookers. Risky sexual behavior is part of their job description when they are stone cold sober. There is no point where they would let their inhibitions down farther. How much lower can you go?

As for the junkers, I could see a small tax credit perhaps, but not a check. People will take advantage of that and start looking for cars to turn in that they don’t even own yet. It’s an invitation to rook the public.

ananda girl – I know what you mean, sometimes sarcasm in writing is hard to get through. Doesn’t stop me though 😉 Good points here too, it’s unbelievable that they think that they can waste our tax dollars like this!

I drive a 1985 MB 300D, 27 miles to the gallon, but according to Mr. Gore, I am raping the world as fast as a Ferrari Enzo (8mpg, 217 mph).

The MB doesn’t qualify for the $4500 credit. And if I could afford an Enzo, I might trade it in for a Maserati GranTurismo (12 mpg) and perversely qualify for the “cash for clunkers”. Maybe with the $4500 savings, I can pick-up some drunk Chinese ho’s too.

I don’t know about the economy, but a new Maserati and the ho’s would definitely stimulate me.

Devrim – Cause and effect sir, cause and effect…..

I’d like a program wherein I trade in my old car and get a drunk Chinese prostitute in exchange. Everybody wins.

Chuck.

Left Coast Rebel said…

Chuck – Sounds like a win-win to me, I guess we can find humor in our national bankruptcy

ccoffer said…

No. We can, however, mock the ideas of the arrogant assholes who are writing this country’s suicide pact.

May they rot…..after they are stopped.

Never forgive. Never forget.

chuck – by humor, I meant that it’s a situation almost as if one is facing an illness and ‘has to laugh’, lest you lose your mind. I do agree that they should rot for bankrupting our wonderful country, if I had my way there would be tribunals. I will never forgive or forget, trust me.
