They say that you can judge a man by the company that he keeps (not to mention the content of his character). A photo is also worth a thousand words. The above was released yesterday by the Venezuelan government, taken at the Summit of the Americas yesterday. Will they use this photo-op as a propaganda tool? Apparently it took the White House (upon inquiries) over three hours to confirm the friendly handshake and meeting. From the pictures I saw, the men were obviously enthusiastic about each other. Take from that what you will.
The biggest part of this story for me is something that I caught watching a Reuters slideshow of the event. Apparently at the offset of their cordial meeting, Chavez extended a book to Obama as a gift. Obama accepted the gift with a glowing, toothy smile. Asked later about the book, “I thought it was one of Chavez’s books,” I was going to give him one of mine.”
Before I give you, dear reader, the name and content wherein of the book, I did a quick search on Amazon and got a few reviews to see what ‘others’ thought of it –
“A superbly written, excellently translated, and powerfully persuasive expose which all students of Latin American and U.S. history must read.”–Choice
“Well written and passionately stated, this is an intellectually honest and valuable study.”–Library Journal
“A dazzling barrage of words and ideas.”–History
Wow, this sounds great doesn’t it? Maybe the volume contains inspiring stories of the ancient civilizations of the Aztec, Inca, and Mayan Indians? Easter Island? Perhaps allusions to the rich culture and spirit of the people of Venezuela? Maybe it paints pictures in words of Christopher Columbus’s voyages to the region?
We should all be more cynical. In what is sure to become bedside reading material for the Obamanation, the book is titled in Spanish “Las Venas Abietas de America Latina” . A direct translation is “Open Veins in Latin America : Five Centuries of Pillage, authored by an Eduardo Galeano.
Sounds innocent enough? “Open Veins” (maybe it’s about South-American surgeons?). ”Five Centuries”, (maybe it has something to do with Obama’s Five Pillars?) Nope, the term ‘pillage’ should have clued you in here. Simply put, it’s an anitcapitalist treatise. Listen to this review from Resistance Books, an Aussie communist book club, (read ‘Red’ Amazon.com down under) –
”Eduardo Galeano’s classic analysis of the effects and causes of capitalist underdevelopment in Latin America presents a clear, passionate account of almost 500 years of the history of the continent. He shows how foreign companies reaped huge profits from their operations in Latin America. He explains the politics of the Latin American bourgeois and their subservience to foreign powers, and how they interacted to create increasingly unequal capitalist societies. With an introduction by Isabel Allende.”
Well said comrade

I dunno… sounds like a good book to give to Obama, assuming he doesn’t already have a well-worn copy. Can’t really fault Chavez for his judgment of Obama’s character, or what he would consider appropriate and interesting reading for the leader of the Obamanation.
Nick – it does sound like a good book to give the Obamanation, can you believe the reciprocated smiles between these two? That says it all…..
The hungry sharks always smell blood in the water, and these despots around the world see a lamb ready for slaughter so their fattening up this moronic sheep for the inevitable kill gents.
I added this link to this story here Rebel BTW.
C Ray – Thanks, I can’t believe the stuff that we are seeing here on a daily basis! This isn’t even something the MSM gives a flip about either. It’s up to us to do the heavy lifting……
Here’s a good manual and tool for you to use Obama – see how it’s really done big boy.
Yuck.
you know, at this rate Rev. Wright will soon start looking like a conservative next to comrade hussein.
JJ – yep, a manual from a pro to another pro, yuck indeed
E D – Haha, I never imagined that day would come….
Glad to hear Obama has a true friend. I hear it’s lonely at the top.
Opus 6 – lonely at the top too for us ‘peasants’
Obama probably already had a copy of that book on his library shelf, right next to Karl Marx’s handbook.
Excellent post, and btw, thank YOU for your comment on my blog. That was very kind of you.
Elm – Can you imagine what his library looks like?
Bob – You are welcome!
Leftist aholes
You are right, we are todays extremists, if you go by the crap set forth by the leftist morons.. ..If you look at the way Obama beams at those America haters you would see that ..Rush is right..Obama believes he will make our “evil country” into a socialist utopia that these demagogues will admire. Obama, Ortega, Rev Wright, Chavez, Castro and Louis Farrakhan are all cut from the same hate America cloth..
fuzzys d – Indeed, did Americans vote for THIS?
IAGNB – I guess standing up for what you believe is now considered ‘extremism’. If so, so be it then…
Birds of a feather.
mksviews – cardinals you mean? After all they are red…..
