There you have it folks – yesterday, as predicted, California voters overwhelmingly voted down the propositions that the Governator and legislators had been hawking for months. As in my previous post, I noted that each proposition, with the exception of 1F was tantamount to fiscal child-abuse, increasing the credit-limit on the State’s credit card in the most basic sense. And voters sensed this to be the case, rushing to polls to express outrage. Check out this great map that shows how each prop did in each statewide county here. According to this map, even the Maoist/Leninist Bay are districts voted against these measures.
So I was sitting here at the desk pondering what this means for CA and the country as well. I came across this here from the Marxist-Panderer Rag, the LA Times – “Nearly a century after the Progressive-era birth of the state’s ballot-measure system, it is clear that voters’ fickle commands, one proposition at a time, are a top contributor to paralysis in Sacramento. And that, in turn, has helped cripple the capacity of the governor and Legislature to provide effective leadership to a state of more than 38 million people.Clogged freeways, the decline of public schools, an outdated water system and a battered economy are just a few of the challenges demanding action by state leaders. Instead, they are consumed by yet another budget crisis, one that voters worsened Tuesday.”
I am speechless, the LA Times intelligentsia ruling-class socialist elitists think that the blame of the State’s ills is to be laid at the feet of the ballot-caster. Disgusting how socialist-progressive types don’t favor democracy when it turn against them. Surprising? Not at all.

I see here from a Bloomberg article that Schwarzenegger is promising to release 19,000 illegal immigrant detainees because of the vote. Bring it on as long as I get my Santa Barbara oil rigs! The illegal immigrant convicts will just go home anyway after they find the mess that Sacramento has caused in the economy. I also see that the CA Treasurer is petitioning Geithner to have the Feds buy short-term loans if the State is to default. Prediction? The Obamanation will yet again bail out California, bypassing the voter.
Nick, a fellow Californian and a great capitalist blogger summed it up today over at It’s Just my Opinion, I could Be Wrong.blogspot – “To see why, you have to understand how California’s budget process works. Without getting into specifics, the more money the government takes, the more it spends, in roughly direct proportion with a multiple. That is, the government always spends more than it steals, regardless of how high the tax rates are. So the higher the taxes are, the more waste there is, and the more waste there will continue to be in the future. Raising taxes doesn’t reduce deficits, at least in California, ever; if anyone claims differently, they are lying (and likely knowingly).” Well said Nick, readers need to follow his blog here.

The Left and CA elitist big-government proponents got their scrawny tushes handed to them yesterday, leaving them running like a pack of red-hinded baboons,(Sacramento pictured left). A bigger question may be what this means to the nation as a whole. I mean after all, the Obamanation’s efforts are truly just a federal expansion of the philosophical underpinnings of CA type progressivism. Look at where this has put the state – compare and contrast the economies and bureaucracies of California versus Texas. One is going bust,
the other is booming and attracting business, entrepreneurs and young families. Glenn Beck recently said on his tv show that 15,000 millionaires have left the Golden State in recent years. Cause and Effect. Will the nation wake up from our Obamanation and rise from Her slumber? Will US voters revolt at the eventual outcome of the Federalization of Californian politics. If they do in a state as lost and liberal as CA – a virtual banana republic; then there is immense hope.

Well said. I overheard one interviewer this morning who could not stop asking the question “what about the government jobs lost”, when all the man was trying to explain was that higher taxes means fewer private sector jobs and thus smaller tax base. Liberals think the money will still come growing on trees after they are through attacking and gutting private enterprise, including healthcare, 17% of GDP. If that becomes the responsibility of the government, you can subtract all that money from the tax base, while adding it onto the expenditure pile. It will be a HUGE blow to the economy, one that libs don’t want to talk about.
A government by the government, for the government, and of the government. :<
Opus – Great point on health care, so basically not only will the Feds take over 17% of the economy, they will thereby decrease the tax base too, leaving us in worse shape. I hadn’t even considered this. Just another of the 100’s of reasons socialized med is wrong….
Ananda – Indeed
After hearing about how the ballot measures worked out today, I was anxious to read your take on it. I was not disappointed!
I cannot believe Arnold actually tried to use the threat of releasing illegal prisioners to get people to vote for that sham budget. You are so right to describe Sacramento as a banana republic!
We hope and think this is a turning point for a New California to emerge. Keep up the great work. What’s the plan to get a flush on the CA Democratic legislature stranglehold? We hope someday to move back to CA…
Clifton – I couldn’t believe that he did that as well, like I said in the piece last week as well, he even ‘threatened’ to drill for oil off of santa barbara, banana repub indeed
nac – I hope that this is the turning point in CA as well, my familie’s livelihood resides here but we have our limit. Are you a CA emigrant, and what would bring you back? Thanks for coming by here….
Maybe if they cut government salaries by 30% each across the board, they could avoid cutting essential services.
Dmarks – that’s a great idea….
