The Libertarian Patriot
Sure sounds like it to me
Bill Cunningham podcast
I think the important thing now is to make sure Obama is not elected, and that means in my mind, listen I would love for a libertarian like Gary Johnson the two term governor of New Mexico would actually get elected President, but I think we all know that’s not going to happen so therefore it’s got to be Romney there is no choice.Root, the 2008 Libertarian Party Vice Presidential nominee and current Chairman of the Libertarian National Campaign Committee tries to backpedal, claiming his words were taken out of context…
Taken from the comment section of an Independent Political Report post on the subject.
Wow I just saw this. Seems certain LP people are as bad as the two parties in grabbing a sentence out of context. And leaving out the meat of the interview. That is not what I said. And you know that’s not what I said.Root can deny this all he wants but his words in the audio are as plain as day, “it’s got to be Romney there is no choice.”, that’s what he said.
I said in a perfect world I’d like to see Gary Johnson elected President, he’d be the best choice out there…I also said several times on the call that Mitt Romney is a big spending, big government Northeast liberal…that he will make very little difference because of this…
That’s what I said. It’s on tape. Sorry folks but you can’t take things out of context.
It’s time for Root to step down as LP Campaign Committee Chairman as a party cannot have one of it’s most influential members even tacitly endorsing a candidate from another party. This does nothing but undermine Governor Johnson’s campaign as Root’s words will be undoubtedly used by the Romney camp later on to sway Libertarians and others to vote for the GOP nominee.
The fact remains that Romney is nothing more than an Obama-lite candidate who will do little to stop Leviathan’s encroachment of our liberties and debasement of our economy.
What difference does it make if you drive the car off the cliff at 100 mph or 80 mph; you’ve still driven off the cliff.
Gary Johnson is the last hope for our Republic in 2012 and has the proven track record to make the changes needed to turn this nation around for the better.
UPDATE: Wayne Allyn Root attempts to clarify his comment even further –Independent Political Report
There's always been something about this guy I didn't trust. When I look him up, I find he writes self-help books and runs a Sports handicapping firm, whatever that is. I guess I got my answer.
ReplyDeleteHe seems like the Establishment's attempt to co-opt libertarians ala Bob Barr. Whether consciously, or unconsciously, they get their peeps in position.
republicanmother
ReplyDeleteRoot is an embarrassment to the LP. It's people like him that cause the party to not be taken seriously.
Are you insane? That is utterly absurd. To call Mitt Romney "Obama lite," is offensive, and a disgusting thing to say.
ReplyDeleteYou ought to be ashamed.
Whoever you are, you have no clue what it means to be a libertarian. I cannot believe Tim Daniels lets you spout such nonsense at this otherwise decent website.
Whatever.
DeleteSaying I have no clue what it means to be a libertarian when you support a Statist like Mittens who used government force to coerce citizens into purchasing a product is pretty ironic.
Out of respect for Tim, if you really want to know what I think about your opinion of me, click here

Mitt Romney "is: a RINO, and a very flawed candidate but he is being jammed down our throats by the establishment RINO's. Mitt the RINO "is not" a true conservative and to come on here and lecture people because they speak their mind is obnoxious, we have freedom of speech in this country.
DeleteMy last comment was directed at the buffoon that is sticking up for Mitt the RINO.
DeleteHey Editor Tim Daniels. Who is this Chris W punk who refuses to sign his own articles with his full name.
ReplyDeleteDude, you and I've been internet buds for a few years now. You're on our Blog Roll at Libertarian Republican.
Unless there's a retraction from this dude, calling Mitt Romney "Obama lite," I'm taking leftcoastrebel off our blog roll.
Eric Dondero, Publisher
LibertarianRepublican.net
Eric, Chris speaks the truth. Truth to Power, does that offend you? Nevermind…
DeleteOh, I almost forgot, threats to take a by far superior site to your own off your blog roll is, well, laughable to say the least.
DeleteTim, if you feel I've overstepped on this I apologize to you. I stand behind my conviction that you are the superior site by far.
"Who is this Chris W punk who refuses to sign his own articles with his full name" says Eric Dondero Rittberg.
DeleteHmmm, someone else is not posting under his full name either.
Eric, sorry you feel that way. Chris is in no way a "punk" and his opinion on Mitt is shared by many liberty-minded citizens today. Heck, I've said things here myself about Mitt Romney a lot worse than "Obama-lite". Romney is a Nixon-like opportunist and not a conservative in any sense. I can continue discussion on that point if you are interested but it sounds like you've already made up your mind on the topic.
DeleteI'm not going to demand a retraction from Chris (Walsh) as none is needed. LCR is above all a free speech zone where conservatives, indies and libertarians can duke it out.
PS: The author list explains what I am saying here about LCR contributors, for example:
DeleteLeft Coast Rebel – San Diego, CA. Above all, independent. Left the GOP when they left me years and years ago. Came back during the rise of the Tea Party but now more independent than ever.
Dean L. – A Canadian citizen and conservative, very concerned with what he sees happening in America. I'm not sure what he thinks of Ron Paul or Mitt Romney and I really don't care.
Republican Mother – Tennessee. A Ron Paul fan and ruthless independent thinker. Connects the dots on how both sides of the establishment are tearing down this nation.
Proof Positive – Northern CA. Traditional conservative. Will support Romney if he is the nominee but is no fan. Respects Ron Paul but I assume is no fan either; so what?
Right Klik – Tennessee. Loves this country and is leery of the statist-dominated GOP. Will support Romney in the end. Not a fan of Paul; so what?
Grant Davies – From Obama's home state. Independent. Libertarian but instead of barking into the left/right echo chamber is more interested in getting conservatives to understand that they are actually libertarians as well.
Libertarian Patriot – Arizona. Libertarian but deserted the big 'L' side of things years ago. Friends with lots of conservatives. Open-minded, smart, will not support Romney.
Rational Nation – Massachusetts. Independent fan of Ayn Rand and all things Founder-related. Conservatives would do well to listen to his words of wisdom.
Telemachus – North Carolina. Worked on the House Budget Committee. Fiercely independent.
Humble Libertarian – Tennessee. Libertarian. Smart young dude. Anti-war Ron Paul fan.
This turned into a post, lol
Delete"This turned into a post, lol"
DeleteA post that inspired another post to boot.
Thank you Eric Dondero Rittberg wherever you are.
Indeed. Something like this has been bouncing around in my skull for a while.
DeleteProblem is Eric, Romney is Obama Lite and a waste of time for any ACTUAL Libertarian to spend one minute defending. Ron Paul till he stops, Gary Johnson afterwards, there is no other alternative..Finally , it seems that that your intellectual prowess seems diminished when you call the author a "punk"?
ReplyDeleteExactly my plan as well. Mittens? I'd rather have Obama& divided govrnment than Romney with majorities. Dondero's backing is an (unnecessary) argument against voting for the bishop, but if there was even an infinitesimal chance that I might have, it's gone now, unless Rand Paul or Judge Napolitano is the VP nominee.
DeleteGosh Tim,,I think you should back down, I mean, why wouldn't you let a kid named Eric, a legend in his own mind, have editorial veto power on what appears on your blog?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have been warned! The last thing you want is to not have your site appear the blogroll of a site that isn't half as good as yours. "The Publisher" has no tolerance for dissenting opinions on other people's blogs.
PS,,Mitt IS Obamalite.
ReplyDeleteThe internal libertarian battle not withstanding, it is becoming clear this and all subsequent elections are now stolen anyhow. A spanish holding company run by an Obama donor now counts the federal election votes.
ReplyDeleteCharles: I had no idea what you were talking about here but read an article earlier that substantiated this. Scary.
