The number of people receiving supplemental nutrition assistance (food stamps) has risen to a new high of 44,187,831 persons in January 2011, according to the USDA. Something to think about as politicians and the LSM tout how much better things are getting by using statistics like rising GDP and falling unemployment, both of which are easily manipulated to produce positive results.
As the amount of people relying on the government steadily increases, what are the chances that they will vote for smaller government? We are more likely to see protests such as in Europe over austerity programs there or even outright revolt as we are seeing in the Middle East if funding is reduced for those facing economic hardship.
If this chart, along with higher food and fuel prices, doesn't make you worry that this country is headed for financial armageddon, nothing will.
How's that for hope and change?
