by the Left Coast Rebel

Would you go swimming here? Do any readers from Florida, familiar with this phenomena know what species of shark these are?

Fox News, Orlando:

NEAR BOCA RATON, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Hundreds of sharks invade the waters near Boca Raton, Florida.

According to Boca Raton ocean rescue, this occurrence happens annually around this time of year.

The sharks migrate up and down the shoreline ... Though they're not close enough to pose any type of danger.

Lifeguards are keeping watch, but aren't instructing swimmers to change plans.

No beaches are being closed at this time.

  1. Not sure what type of sharks those are, south Florida waters are known to have lemon sharks, bull sharks and types of reef sharks. The lemon sharks are the most harmless of the bunch. I think bull sharks are a bit dangerous as they are known to be indiscriminate eaters and are responsible for most bites in Florida. Not knowing the type of shark, I would say NO, I would not swim there, now kayaking...that would be cool.

  2. I might try kayaking too, they don't look big enough to knock a kayak over, like a Great White can. Lemon sharks are nasty -- eve see the mouthful of teeth they have? Good thing San Diego doesn't have any lemons...

  3. i'm in north florida, i have friends down in that area of south florida, they tell me they are "spinner" sharks...they are not considered dangerous to people, they have small teeth and feed on baitfish...avg size approx 6'
