This morning I caught the tail end of Rush Limbaugh's segment wherein he mentioned a moving story about a young man named Jeffrey Hasara that was ill from bone cancer and passed away at 16. Rush met the Hasara family through Mark Hasara. I missed the segment wherein Rush talked about the ceremony for Jeffrey's passing. Did he attend the funeral? Readers - could you relate more on the story in the comment section here and I will update?
(Editor's Note: Blogger Pedaling just noted, "I was listening to Rush speak about this as I was running a few errands this morning.Yes, Rush did attend the funeral. His wife Katherine flew first to Iowa where the family lives to help and be with them as they made arrangements. There was a funeral there, then the body was flown to Utah where other family members reside and another funeral was held there. Rush flew out to Utah for this funeral. He said they seated he and his wife in the front row and it was an honor. Sounds like he was very touched by the whole event.)
Rush has mentioned the young man's father, Lt. Col. Mark Hasara on the air before and introduced him on the air in 2008 and told the story of the American flag:
RUSH: I have gotten to know via e-mail a couple of great friends in the US Military, the US Air Force. I'll take you back, with a very brief lead-in here. This has to be three years ago now, maybe four. I walked home one day, got home one day, and there was a FedEx, and I opened the box, and it was an American flag in a Ziploc bag and a number of certificates validating that the flag had been flown on all those aircraft in the original invasion of Iraq, in my honor. It brought tears to my eyes. The letter explaining this was handwritten on legal pad from Mark Hasara, who flew the DC-10 or the KC-10 tanker that refueled all these attack jets on the original bomb run, and, in the process of my getting to know Colonel Hasara....
Sounds like an amazing story and Colonel Hasara sounds like quite an American.Mark Hasara's Twitter profile lists him as:
Here's a photo of Rush with Mark Hasara:

And a photo of the young Jeffrey Hasara with his family. Jeffrey was far too young to have passed away, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family:

Updated: Lo writing at BigWhiteDoors was good friends with Jeffrey Hasara. She wrote in May, 2010:
I am deeply moved, as I am certain you are too. Read the entire post about her friend Jeff, here. The way Jeff has handled everything blows my mind. From talking to him the whole way I've learned more from him than I have from anyone in such a short time slot. . He has gone through more than a lot of people have to go through in the their whole lives, as a 16 year old.I've learned so much from Jeff. I have seen a change in myself already in the sense that I've recognized the petty, stupid little things in life don't matter. We shouldn't take time to worry about things that aren't our top priorities in life. You never know what life is going to throw at you, and you never know how long you have at any given point in time. I've learned to take advantage of the people, places and experiences we have because that's what makes our life meaningful.Jeff's unconditional love for everyone makes me want to be a better person. I remember watching him ask girls to dance who no one had asked and were left by themselves. Not just once but multiple times. Everyone is fighting a hard battle, so I've learned from him to take the chances to make everyone's battle-no matter what it may be- a little easier.
