Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Defames Elena Kagan Over 'Softball' Wall Street Journal Cover

by the Left Coast Rebel

I almost missed this story at Politico due to the plethora of chatter at Memeorandum over SCOTUS nominee Elena Kagan. The Elena Kagan 'lesbian rumor' is still the chatter of Washington DC.

Look a little further and you will find a teachable moment in political correctness. Liberal Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation thinks that this Wall Street Journal front page is virtually hate speech, slander and character assassination. I had to look three or four times to even figure out what the hell they are talking about:

Even in today's politically correct, hyper-sensitive Orwellian times, does the above spread from the Journal warrant this response?:

"It clearly is an allusion to her being gay. It's just too easy a punch line," said Cathy Renna, a former spokesperson for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation who is now a consultant. "The question from a journalistic perspective is whether it’s a descriptive representation of who she might be as a judge. Have you ever seen a picture of Clarence Thomas bowling?"
Oh brother. You would think that the Wall Street Journal had a front page shot of Elena Kagan on a Harley Davidson, geared up in leather, smoking a cigar, with a rainbow flag in tow (which I would support showing as well, freedom of speech and all).

Also, I don't know whether or not Clarence Thomas enjoys bowling but the leftwing sure did burn him at the stake for being a limited government SCOTUS nominee. Clarence Thomas was subjected to the most sever lynching since the Salem Witch trials. Talk about a terrible analogy.

What are these people hiding, given their reaction to something that I would deem a non-event?

The Wall Street Journal responded to this 'controversy' (Politico):

But Journal officials ridiculed a question about the image, which also appeared among other photographs in the Times's coverage of Kagan.

"If you turn the photo upside down, reverse the pixilation and simultaneously listen to Abbey Road backwards, while reading Roland Barthes, you will indeed find a very subtle hidden message," said Journal spokeswoman Ashley Huston.

"I think your question is absurd," said Journal Deputy Managing Editor Alan Murray in a separate email.

Good for the Journal. The New York Times or Washington Post would not have b@tch slapped these miscreants like this. Just another reason that the Wall Street Journal has gained readership in recent history as other dead-tree press teeters on the cliff of bankruptcy.

Leftist gay rights groups in many cases are as ridiculous as PETA and this story proves that, once again.

  1. bafflingly ridiculous.
It is not as if they doctored a photo of her playing softball...

...and so now ONLY lesbians play softball? They own the sport? And any depiction of a woman playing softball constitutes calling her a lesbian. And if she is in fact, a lesbian, showing a picture of her engaged in softball is HATE SPEECH?

    I dont get it.

  2. When I looked at the photo, her orientation wasn't the first thing I thought.

I thought okay, they are trying to control the message: look she is a regular Joanne, she likes the National pastime...I bet she likes Apple pie too. They want to wrap her up in all the Americana they can find.

LBGT knows, they are living in the U.S.A. right?

  3. concerning the SnapTube video clip downloader. We have gone SnapTube for PC SnapTube is one the most effective video clip downloaders.
