Today the Daily Caller broke a story on a Scottsdale, Arizona dermatologist named Joseph M. Scherzer that will be closing his practice before Obamacare takes effect. Dr. Scherzer has been a practicing Dermatologist in Scottsdale since 1976 and is 63 years old. He practices at the Scottsdale Skin and Cancer Center in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Joseph M. Scherzer, M.D. told the Daily Caller that he 'plans to stop practicing before 2014 when the bill's full impact will be felt because he refuses to deal with the headache of increased government involvement in health care.' Perhaps he neglected to mention as well longer waiting lines, fewer doctors (as he exemplifies), cut backs in Medicare reimbursement and a myriad of other issues that will destroy doctor morale. There is a caveat to Dr. Joseph M. Scherzer's plan to throw in the towel and he said as much on a sign taped to the front door of his office. Unless Congress or the Courts Repeal the Bill:

In a conversation with the Daily Caller, Dr. Scherzer narrowed in on Obamacare's punitive measures for physicians not following government-prescribed treatment methods. This, he explained, would cause a level of anxiety that would make his job not worth the hassle.
Barack Obama's 2nd cousin, Dr. Milton R. Wolf, M.D. related the same theme to the Left Coast Rebel recently as well. Does anyone here recall an Investor's Business Daily poll that reflected this sentiment months before Obamacare's passage?:

As was the case with Dr. Jack Cassel out of Florida, I imagine that Dr. Joseph M. Scherzer, M.D. will face a barrage of vitriol, hatred, taunts and violent rhetoric from the 'tolerant' left. Of course these types will neglect to mention that Dr. Scherzer claims to have not been politically active for 10 years, blames the problems in the medical system on Democrats and Republicans and will only now attend his first Tea Party in NY.
I commend Dr. Scherzer's honesty, bravery and integrity. I know that his story will be echoed thousands of times across our nation as others find themselves going Galt against tyranny and socialism -- one doctor, businessman, individual at a time.

It would be interesting also to know how much doctors pay in taxes each year between business taxes, income taxes, etc etc and then calculate how much the government will lose in additional revenue when they choose to close their doors. I bet it will be staggering - doctors make a lot of money (well sometimes) and spend a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point Lisa, but I think these Oligarchs have already thought about this... Are there a shortage of socialist doctors in the eastern countries? Muslim doctors?
ReplyDeleteDermatologist? Bah I can survive with my pimples. 63 years his old and ready to retire he doesn't have much to lose anyways. Just retire and leave people alone.
ReplyDeleteI have just discovered that you wrote about my recent flurry of publicity. Thank you for your support. I have had overwhelmingly supportive phone calls from OUT of state folks (patients AND doctors), as well as from my own patients. The fact that I am nearing 'usual' retirement age (NOT the norm for physicians) misses the message.
ReplyDeleteI am going to begin a Blog of my own to 'get the message out.' Sound bites don't tell the tale well enuf, by far.
Regards, Joe Scherzer,M.D.
