(Editor's Note) Welcome Gateway Pundit readers, be sure to catch Sarah Palin's Searchlight video and follow the Left Coast Rebel via the Google 'follower' tab in the sidebar.
Tea Party activists are gathering in Searchlight, Nevada to send a message to one of the most arrogant, statist, incompetent and powerful pols in the nation - Harry 'Dingy' Reid. Organizers of Showdown in Searchlight predict that the crowd may swell to over 10,000 patriots from all walks of life. Way to go guys!
Robert Stacy McCain is at the event and will be covering it. MAinfo is at the event and will be taking pictures and sending them to her site from her Blackberry. She is stuck in traffic on the way to Searchlight as I speak:
I wish that I could have attended as well. Speakers today include one of my favorite libertarian/conservatives - a.m. talker Jerry Doyle, Libertarian Wayne Allen Root, Sarah Palin, San Diego's gem Roger Hedgecock and many more. Stay tuned for updates.....
UPDATED: The AP has a story this morning, Nevada tea party candidate facing felony charges. Since this is the top thread at Memeorandum at the moment, I delved into it a bit. My first instinct was that this guy is the bogus Tea Party candidate that is actually a Democrat and the same guy that the Tea Party movement has disassociated itself from. I'm right! Via Gateway Pundit:
Fake tea party candidate Scott Ashjian, a Nevada asphalt contractor running for US Senate in Nevada, was charged Friday with felony theft and bad check charges in Las Vegas. The fake tea partier allegedly bounced a $5,000 business check last year.
On top of that the Tea Party Express released a video telling faker Scott Ashjian to get lost:

UPDATED x2: The mob has been spotted! I just got some pictures from Zimbio as Tea Party activists gather in Searchlight, Nevada:
Founding Bloggers has some great Searchlight, Nevada, photos from early this morning as well:
UPDATED x3: In the mail, Levi Russel at Tea Party Express:
Harry Reid Supporters Egg Tea Party Express Buses in RouteThe tolerant, peaceful left? Why does this not surprise me. Since there are just 35 Harry Reid supporters, perhaps they think that egg-throwing will add legitimacy to their sad cause. Who do you think has 'egg on their face' in the end? Readers - search for photographs of the egg-throwers and send them my way!
Supporters of Senator Harry Reid have just thrown eggs at the Tea Party Express bus caravan - striking at least one of the three buses (the red Tea Party Express bus) with multiple eggs.
About 35 Reid supporters had lined Highway 95 in front of the Nugget Casino in Searchlight where they were attempting a counter-demonstration the tens of thousands of tea party supporters who are gathering for the "Showdown in Searchlight."
More details to follow...
UPDATED x4: Kate Zernike at the NYT smears Tea Party activists today as jobless neanderthals with too much time on their hands. She simply thinks that the Tea Party movement will fade away once all of you idiots find employment! Do me a favor. Do as I did. Send an email to Kate Zernike expressing your displeasure with her piece. Do so cordially and respectfully. Here is what I wrote to her:
Dear Madam,
Although your Times piece today on the Tea Party movement does express some good points, I find that you work your way around to smear the movement with the 'jobless' angle. What you assert simply is not true. I am a Tea Party activist and gainfully employed as are the vast majority of my friends that are Tea Party activists as well. In fact, even my grandmother is a Tea Partier and she is retired. Does this 'jobless' meme apply to her too? I find it wildly unfair that you would smear the movement in this fashion. I hope you consider my opinion.
Cordially,
NYT reader
UPDATED x5: Kate Zernike of the Times responds relatively politely to my cordial request:

Dear Mr. Dano,I responded to Kate Zernike:
Thanks for writing. I'm not sure how being jobless (or otherwise hit hard by the economy) is a "smear." This was just something I have observed in probably hundreds of interviews. You're right, it's not all, but as the story said, I have heard similar stories over and over.
Best,
Kate Zernike
Dear Madam,
Thank you for your prompt and cordial reply. As I posited in my previous letter, your piece did express several valid points. The current recession certainly explains part of the Tea Party movement's momentum. But it is explicitly because many in the Tea Party believe that current government policy is exacerbating and increasing the length and degree of the recession. In fact, many Tea Party activists feel that the Obama administration and Congress are taking advantage of the recession to institute wildly unpopular legislation. They also felt this way during the final year of the Bush administration.
Cordially,
NYT reader
UPDATED x6: I found Sarah Palin's speech at Searchlight, if you didn't see it headlining LCR, here it is:
UPDATED x7: I neglected to mention, you can follow everything today via. Twitter #searchlight hashtag. Pajamas TV is live streaming the Searchlight event. You have to sign up to watch the video but is easy to do and free. Joe Wurzelbacher is on the stage right now and he is doing suprisingly well. I haven't heard him speak live before like this and he is a decent speaker. No teleprompter in sight! Chuck DeVore is now taking the stage at 2:00 PST....2:05 PST, wow - Chuck DeVore rocks, a strong voice, he just said that we cannot bury our children under the debt that we are building and that we can rebuild the GOP from within.
UPDATED x8: Fox News just reported (2:30 PST) that the crowd was well in excess of 10,000 people, I am hearing close to 30,000. FN mentioned that it was mayhem to get to the Showdown in Searchlight event - the traffic was terrible. These photos from TwitPic confirm:
