Quotable: Going Back, Glenn Reynolds Interviewed by John Hawkins, Citizen Journalism

by the Left Coast Rebel

I just caught an interview with Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit fame, given by John Hawkins at Right Wing News. I'm hot on the trail for information on just how Reynolds created a political blog that gets 500,000 hits a day and came across this:

Glenn Reynolds:

Libertarians are enormously effective when they critique existing political institutions. They're much less effective when they seek doctrinal purity above all else. Most Americans have a strong streak of small-l libertarianism, but the party seems adept at making sure that they don't migrate to the large-L variety. I think the response of people like Harry Browne to the war is a good example. It's principled, but it's also obviously wrong.
Also, Professor Reynolds' on the army of p-j journalists:
Journalism is becoming an activity, not simply a profession. In my InstaPundit.com weblog I have tried to foster the growth of amateurism in that field, by encouraging people to get involved and to make use of the new tools—from Web publishing to inexpensive digital still and video cameras—to bring news and perspectives to the world stage that were previously lacking.
In other words, citizen-journalists, ie. bloggers, are the army that has shattered old media - the Fifth Estate. Pics via Althouse, Instapundit.
