Obama, Drill, Baby Drill? Tons of Contrarian Indicators Equal Smoke and Mirrors

by the Left Coast Rebel

Oftentimes when a big story breaks like the Obamanation's decision to 'open offshore areas to oil drilling for the first time' as the New York Times puts it, I simply put on my contrarian cap to get to the truth of the matter. The first clue comes in at the Times, the photo-op backdrop for Obama's drill, baby, drill now:

Uh-huh. Behold the "Greenie-Weeny-Hornet" that runs on 50% bio-fuel and keeps the anticapitalist/green lobby happy. Just think about it, as the "Greenie-Weeny-Hornet" blasts enemies to smithereens it actually saves the environment! Perhaps it fires "Greenie-Weenie" rockets as well to reduce it's carbon footprint while killing terrorists. I digress, blindsided by such a thought of our military turning into Avatar. NYT:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.
Ok, interesting. To tell you the truth this looks good on the surface. Looks can be deceiving though, especially considering that the Obamanation is still going to push Cap and Trade. Think about it. Here's a money-shot from Steve Bennen in the Washington Monthly, he asks "In Exchange for What," on the perceived, 'drill here, drill now' deal:
I am interested, though, in what the administration may get in the way of concessions after agreeing to such a move.Under any scenario, actual drilling is still years away, and it's unclear how many East coast states, if any, will raise objections.
Michelle Malkin points out a glaring catch as well. Smoke and (oil) mirrors. Carrot on a stick leading the horse. I think this is a giant shell game from Obama that plays into the radical restructuring of our economy through cap and trade. Until proven otherwise.

UPDATED: Gateway Pundit has a great piece up, Obama's Drilling Deception......Jim Hoft writes:

In 2009 Democrats scrapped oil and gas leases in Utah, permanently banned drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), and nixed offshore drilling.
For decades Democrats have blocked efforts to responsibly develop this nation’s energy resources, transforming vast areas of opportunity into “The No Zone.”

A recent study examined the cost of these democratic policies of not drilling and developing domestic oil reserves. The SAIC Corporation discovered that democrats will cost the US $2.36 Trillion through 2029.
