Joe Stack's Manifesto: Andrew Sullivan Weighs and I Agree, Somewhat

by the Left Coast Rebel

I'm not a fan of Andrew Sullivan at the Daily Dish, frankly I find him to be a bore. I also find it laughable that he labels himself a 'conservative' or 'libertarian'. Occasionally I do read him just to check out the level of derangement present (although he is bad - he is nowhere near Charles Johnson). Andrew Sullivan weighs in on the Joe Stack story and his concurrent manifesto, a rare time that I actually agree (although I think Joe Stack echoed Marxist ideology) Sullivan:

After a pretty crazy week of debate and travel, I've now been able to read and ponder Mr Stack's "manifesto." It seems to me that there are all sorts of incoherent strands of populist rage within it, right and left, as well, obviously, as personal issues that almost certainly pushed him from simply raging at the TV set to becoming a terrorist. I think the attempt to use him to condemn either political party is unhelpful.
Perhaps the Tea Party meme that the nutroots were trying to propagate just ain't gonna get traction - does this explain Sullie's take? You tell me. Discussion at Memeorandum.

Reader and blogger Keyboard Jockey succinctly weighs in on this as well in the comments:

I think Joe Stack suffered from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. His ramblings were Nihilistic.

The term nihilism is sometimes used in association with anomaly to explain the general mood of despair at a perceived pointlessness of existence that one may develop upon realizing there are no necessary norms, rules, or laws.[2] Movements such as Futurism and deconstructionism,[3] among others, have been identified by commentators as "nihilistic" at various times in various contexts.

Joe Stack isn't a mystery or anomaly, if he turns out to be a lefty, this will be the second one in a week to go off the deep end, and kill someone. Amy "I want my tenure" Bishop, is an Obama acolyte. So enamored is she of President Obama, to the point it was stated to be off putting.

Andrew Sullivan doesn't want Rev Jeremiah Wright's famous rant thrown in his face "You're Chickens Are Coming Home To Roost"

It's possible that the Left are doing to the vulnerable in their peer groups, what they accuse the Right of doing - inciting their fringe.

  1. I agree with you and Andrew Sullivan also. Joe Stack was a person with major personal and psychological issues that for some reason felt like he had no hope. This is such an unfortunate event, especially since he left a wife and child behind.

  4. Thanks LCR,

The writer from the Salon tried to blame Bill O'Reilly, for whipping up the extreme right fringe when Dr Tiller was killed.

Then they tried to blame Glenn Beck for inciting people, and tried to tie him to The Census Takers Death In Kentucky. There was absolutely no connection from Glenn Beck to this Census Worker, it was fabricated out of thin air. What does Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly have in common "Fox News".

If you read the last sentence in Andrew Sullivan's post on this topic, he slams Fox News. So there just might be some projecting going on, and they really don't want anyone pointing out this violent trend, might be tied to their political ideology.

The truth is there are mentally unstable people, and they sometimes commit horrific acts. As we all have witnessed the last week.

Oh and Amy Bishop wants to know if she still has her job, and she doesn't remember anything...there is an account, that one of her victims a women, begged her not to kill her. Amy Bishop shot her three times. It looks like they are going to try and get her off on an insanity defense. Although her husband blamed the people, who wouldn't give her tenure for her actions. They say there is no record of her ever seeking or getting any mental health help...so she must of just gone crazy recently.
