Scott Brown for Senate: Coakley Campaign Worker Assaults Reporter UPDATE: Video

by the Left Coast Rebel

The Martha Coakley/Scott Brown race in Massachusetts is getting more interesting by the minute. Yesterday a new Rasmussen poll showed the race basically neck and neck with (obviously) the momentum on Scott Brown's side. Of particular note is the fact that voters not affiliated with either party are favoring Brown 71% to 23%.

On a scandalous note though is the hoopla surrounding the alleged assault of a Coakley campaigner against a reporter from the Weekly Standard. John McCormack, (the man assaulted from the WS), wrote this yesterday:

As I walked down the street, a man who appeared to be associated with the Coakley campaign pushed me into a freestanding metal railing. I ended up on the sidewalk. I was fine. He helped me up from the ground, but kept pushing up against me, blocking my path toward Coakley down the street.

He asked if I was with the media, and I told him I work for THE WEEKLY STANDARD. When I asked him who he worked for he replied, "I work for me." He demanded to see my credentials, and even though it was a public street, I showed them to him.

I eventually got around him and met up with the attorney general halfway down the block.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection notes that the assault is a big story but perhaps the bigger story is Marth Coakley's reaction to the event - as in a non-reaction from this AP picture. This Phot0 May Change the Election:

The man pictured on the ground is the Weekly Standard reporter Johm McCormack and the assailant is a certain Mr. Michael Meehan, a media consultant with ties to Massachusetts and the Coakley camp. He obviously looks pissed, frustrated and ready to fight, (as in not in the realm of ideas). Coakley's expression speaks for itself. This folks is simply just too juicy and reminds me of Dede Scozzafava in theNY 23 race when she called the police on a reporter. Remember that?

You can't make this stuff up! Go Scott Brown!

UPDATE: Another Black Conservative weighs in and actually shows that the Weekly Standard reporter that was assaulted is the same man from the NY 23 incident. Bizarre.

UPDATE II: Hat tip to BBCW, here is the video of the incident:

UPDATEIII: It has been confirmed that Michael Meehan is indeed a Dem staffer and that he has now apologized for assaulting the WS reporter. Go here for more.

  3. This reminds me of the way the citizenry is being treated on the healthcare issue. If we protest, they'll knock us down. Standard Democrat operating procedures.
