I'm trying to glean information on this O'Keefe Mary Landrieu office arrest and it's a tough call. There is simply a lot of information pouring in, a lot of conjecture, speculation and such, as one would expect. Bloggers, talkers and activists are running the gamut on this, calling it everything from an Eric Holder type setup to a Watergate potential blowup. I can only imagine that if O'Keefe were to go to this extreme and reckless of an action that he knew something incredibly dirty about Senator Mary Landrieu. I offer you that the paper shredders are running overtime in her Federal office basement at this point. I have no idea.
It saddens me to see such a (former) hero of mine (allegedly) break the law like this. I recall that when he broke all of the ACORN malfeasance stuff that he mentioned using the left's own rules against them, ie. implementing Rules for Radicals and such. While I agree and applaud doing just that, breaking the law should not be part of that journalistic effort. For myself, as a liberty activist and thinker, the ends do not justify the means. Obviously this is not good for the conservative cause and for the incredible voice of Breitbart either. Breitbart released a statment earlier:
"We have no knowledge about or connection to any alleged acts and events involving James O’Keefe at Senator Mary Landrieu’s office. We only just learned about the alleged incident this afternoon. We have no information other than what has been reported publicly by the press. Accordingly, we simply are not in a position to make any further comment.”More to come.
UPDATE: Breitbart writes a piece and organizes his thoughts, 12 pm ET yesterday:
The ACORN story was a huge black eye for the organized left and their allies and cohorts in the mainstream media. So they are relishing every minute of this breaking story, making it their top story – while they ignored the initial ACORN story until they no longer could.
MSNBC and other “news organizations” are even billing this developing story as “Watergate”. What do Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow know? And when did they know it?
I’m sure they would like to believe O’Keefe is stupid enough to try to “wiretap” a sitting U.S. senator in broad daylight during office hours, while recording the entire sequence of events on his cell phone camera. And they’d like you to believe it, too.
But there is absolutely no allegation in the criminal complaint that “wiretapping” or “bugging” is any part of this case, just the charge that O’Keefe and the others entered Sen. Landrieu’s office in New Orleans “for the purpose of interfering with the office’s telephone system.”
