UPDATED: Tom Coburn is a Hero, Tom Coburn Demands 12-Hour Reading of Socialist Sander's Single-Payer Amendment: Socialist Sanders Withdraws Amendment

by the Left Coast Rebel

The Democrats are scurrying like rats fleeing a sinking Titanic. The infighting in the ranks and anger projected at the Obamantion is making me dizzy, I am left a happy onlooker but still worried that they may pass this thing. This thing being of course something that I can't even put my finger on. Public option? Yes and then no. Medicare buy-in? Yes and then no. Weasel Lieberman support? No and then yes. Michael Moore still wants to eat him for dinner,(I'm sure that he could), for what that is worth.

The one thing that I can put my finger on today is that Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn is Da Man. Coburn has forced a full reading of Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders's single payer amendment. Apparently this move may stall a vote on Obamacare in the Senate, Coburn initiated this from what I am reading to stop a move by Reid to force a 'cloture' vote even before new CBO info comes out.

I call for weeks of reading not only amendments but the bill itself. Perhaps if the GOP grows any semblance of a pair this may be the thing that keeps the Obamanation from getting his 'Christmas' present. Earlier today I even heard an account that Dems may vote on Christmas Eve or morning on this thing.

Da Man:

Now for readers here, note at 1:15 the admittance by Adulterer-Baucus that Senators will not, nor should they read the bill, the amendments, blah, blah, blah. Note the condescension and arrogance, the contempt. When the dust settles and we have our country back, I vote that many of these traitors serve time. And I'm not talking about Congress.

UPDATE: In the volatile health care takeover Obamanation-Abomination, it seems that Bernie Sanders has withdrawn his single payer amendment, thus negating Coburn's stand. The Hill writes:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday withdrew his single-payer healthcare
amendment after Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) initiated a procedural maneuver to
shipwreck the measure.

Coburn earlier in the day forced the Senate clerk to read aloud Sanders’s 767-page amendment to the Senate healthcare bill in an effort to halt the healthcare debate.

Sanders, a self-described “democratic socialist,” spoke on the Senate floor to announce the withdrawal of the measure.

"The day will come, although I recognize it’s not today, when the U.S. Congress will have to vote to stand up to … all those who profit every single year off of human sickness,” Sanders said. "That day will come."

Sanders's decision to withdraw the amendment will stop the reading and allow
debate to continue.

UPDATE II: My head is spinning now, my inside analyst, (hint, he is blood related), just scooped me on the fact that Sanders may be pulling a 180 'F-U' to Harry Reid. I'm reading at Think Progress of all places that Sanders is now a squishy support, in fact he may not support:

Sanders is the only member of the Democratic caucus to publicly oppose the Senate legislation, and it’s unclear if he would still vote for cloture but oppose the final bill. Still, Sanders’ objections raise new doubts about whether Reid has the votes to file cloture on the bill tomorrow and pass it before Christmas.

UPDATE III: I'm reading here at Politico about today's events in the Senate, the ongoing damage control, etc. Listen to this:

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) objected — it takes only one senator — and forced the
reading.

Democrats were able to halt the reading, which could have lasted until early
Thursday, by pulling the amendment. But they won’t be able to do the same when
Reid presents a critical amendment — known as a manager’s amendment — containing
the compromise he hopes will win 60 votes for the overall bill.

Both Tom Coburn, and Jim DeMint are patriots who love this great nation.

Pardon my off topic comment, but I just read an article from Drudge, regarding how Cuba is gearing up for a rush on the tourist industry. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/22/20091216/tts-uk-usa-cuba-travel-ca02f96.html

Now, I am not a conspiracy theorist, but it just makes me think about where the money is really coming from to build hotels, restaurants etc., to accommodate an influx of visitors from the US. The article didn't mention specifics of who the investors are, to risk enormous amounts of capital with a dubious ROI (return on investment.) Could it be that the Federal Reserve has funneled money for this endeavor? Could it be that our so-called "stimulus money" has been given to the Castro's in order to show indoctrinated Americans that Cuba and Communism truly is a paradise created by compassionate collectivists? My idea isn't much of a stretch with this administration... not by a long shot.

@ Chris - I'm just reading that here too.

@ Griper - Yup, Coburn is a good example of sticking to principles.
