Stossel on Fox Business: December 10 Premiere to Focus on Ayn Rand, 'Atlas Shrugged'

John Stossel

by the Left Coast Rebel

Although invited, I won't be able to attend, (in audience), John Stossel's new show on the Fox Business channel. The Baltimore Sun interviewed Stossel:

His weekly show, "Stossel," is a live-to-tape format, which means it will be taped before a live audience, and working in any kind of live format is an issue for him, the winner of 19 Emmy Awards says....He says he asked for the live audience "because speaking at colleges, I liked the interaction with these angry students who say, 'Capitalism is evil.' Through trying to explain it and answer them, I've gotten better at it - and more willing to try it."

"And the first show is based on 'Atlas Shrugged,' the [ Ayn Rand] novel, which predicts the explosion of government that we have now," he continues. "And on global warning, there's Jerry Taylor, of the Cato Institute - you don't normally see him on these shows. John Mackey, creator of Whole Foods, will also be on. He wrote an op-ed and got boycotted by the granola folks who shop at Whole Foods.

I have a new pre-set to record on my DVR, how about you?

Dang, too bad you can't make it! That should prove really interesting. Thanks for letting us all know about the show. :)

You should tell them to film a few episodes in Fox Studios LA; it's very close to where I work and I could certainly attend. :)

I cannot wait for his show! I am a HUGE fan of his, and I have been missing his insights on 20/20(?). Of course, I don't watch that show at all anymore since he left, I have no reason to. Thank-you FOX for bringing Stossel back to me.

What a bummer you cannot attend, hopefully you will get invited again.

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

I couldn't resist... Never been a Rand fan. She takes way too long to tell her story, the characters are uninteresting and unbelievable, and the dialog is horrible.

Objectivism is just unvarnished, atheistic, self-interested greed. Lest anyone mention Adam Smith, I will remind everyone that he wrote extensively about ethics before penning "The Wealth of Nations," and dealing with self-interest in the marketplace. Big difference.

Sorry, I know this makes me a churlish boo boo head with my fellow conservatives/libertarians.

I don't denigrate others for reading her, it beats reading Mark or Sarte. I just think the whole cult that has grown up around her is pompous and overblown trending trite.

One could learn a lot more by using her tomes as footstools while relaxing and reading everything written by John Stossel. He's a real-life hero.

@ Sparky - Tell me about it, I would have loved to have gone. At $1,000 it just wasn't feasable.

@ Nick - We'll do better than that, we will both attend if he is nearby, maybe I could even get us on a panel, lol.

@ Joie - I have always been a fan too!

@ Fouts - I respect your opinion on this, I certainly can relate to the cult-like nature of some of the Randians, it is off-putting and damaging to the cause to say the least. You are not a boo-boo head IMO for this opinion, lol.
