Little Green Footballs: Charles Johnson Jekyll and Hyde

by the Left Coast Rebel

Charles Johnson, the man behind the curtain at Little Green Footballs. Now there is a strange one, to put it mildly. I'll be honest, after the big broo-ha-ha a few months back between Charles Johnson and Robert Stacy McCain, where Johnson saw it fit to smear McCain as a 'white supremacist', I haven't been to LGF much. When I have unavoidably come across it I have been shocked at just how disjointed and incoherent that Charles Johnson is. It's almost as if what he says now on a daily basis is actually an alter-ego bent on getting the most eyeballs to the site and then subsequently pulling a kamikaze/suicide-bomber run.

I still am not quite familiar with blogger-etiquette and do not see how one sees it fit to label anyone and everyone that comes into disagreement as racist, haters, bigots, supremacists, extremists, blah, blah, blah. And for doing just that Charles Johnson is simply a boorish bore. Why does anyone frequent his site? The answer eludes me.....

But it's not that you should really even care, it's just that I find it interesting today, being that he is headlined at Memeorandum with a piece explaining why he hates the right, (now at least). No, it's not original as should be expected; he hates conservatives because they are fascists, racist bigots, global warming flat-earthers, anti-islamists, among others. He comes to these labels via logic and debate that wouldn't pass in a 2nd grade debate, ie. conservatives are these things simply because they disagree with him.

Jekyll with Hyde, Hyde with Jekyll.

And there it is. Do you want to know something funny? Oftentimes I come to a blog post like this without my thoughts even put together. I never have an outline, things tend to spill forth. Jekyll and Hyde, I just thought of that. On that theme I'll point you to Charles Johnson, then and now. Then hopefully this will be the last time I ever speak of him again as he seems to be on a mission for virgins with his site.
A refresher course on the classic Jekyll and Hyde story:

After drinking a potion of his own creation, Jekyll is transformed into the smaller, younger, cruel, remorseless, evil Edward Hyde, representing the hidden side of Dr Jekyll's nature brought to the fore. Dr Jekyll has many friends and has a friendly personality, but as Mr Hyde, he becomes mysterious, violent, and secretive. As time goes by, Mr Hyde grows in power. After taking the potion repetitively, he no longer relies upon it to unleash his inner demon. But in the end Hyde is so powerful that he takes over.

Brilliant. As Mr. Hyde Charles Johnson becomes mysterious, violent and secretive. How about a couple items, a before and after a Jekyll and Hyde Charles Johnson?

Jekyll Charles Johnson 2006 to WaPo re: the press and Islam extremism ---

"But the mainstream media shies away from showing the public the real face of Islamic extremism. They don't want to offend. And they are influenced by some strong advocacy groups that are funded by Middle Eastern countries, which are actively engaging with the mainstream media to promote a point of view."

Hyde Charles Johnson today on conservatives that believe precisely the same as above ---

"Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide."

Jekyll Charles Johnson on recommending "The Great Global Warming Swindle," global warming ---

"...the international left's newest article of blind faith....."

Hyde Charles Johnson today on conservative global warming skeptics of which, (at least to a degree), he was one of ---

"Support for anti-science bad craziness (see: creationism, climate change denialism, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, James Inhofe, etc.)"

I could go on and on here but you see the point. I would link his garbage but frankly don't even want to send 10 hits his way. Remember ---

  1. What is strange is the out-of-control infatuation with Johnson shown by what used to be my favorite blogs.

  3. @ Larry - Myself included in this infatuation? Show me another post in the last several months authored by I that even mentions LGF. Perhaps you are referring to the Other McCain?

@ Stogie - Thank you, same to you.

@ Donald - Thank you to you as well.
