ClimateGate and the Global Warming Email Scandal: Front Page in the Washington Post

by the Left Coast Rebel

Saturday's print edtion of the WaPo along with Washingtonpost.com are headlining, "In emails, Science of Warming is Hot Debate."

In all honesty, the mere aknowledgement of this story in WaPo is surprising. Truthfully, I never thought that we would see that, but there you have it. Newsbusters has excerpts of the key points in the WaPo piece, here's one:

Now it has mushroomed into what is being called "Climate-gate," a scandal that has done what many slide shows and public-service ads could not: focus public attention on the science of a warming planet.

Except now, much of that attention is focused on the science's flaws. Leaked just before international climate talks begin in Copenhagen -- the culmination of years of work by scientists to raise alarms about greenhouse-gas emissions -- the e-mails have cast those scientists in a political light and given new energy to others who think the issue of climate change is all overblown.

The e-mails don't say that: They don't provide proof that human-caused climate change is a lie or a swindle.

But they do raise hard questions. In an effort to control what the public hears, did prominent scientists who link climate change to human behavior try to squelch a back-and-forth that is central to the scientific method? Is the science of global warming messier than they have admitted?

Great news, LCR! So wonderful to hear that ONE of the major news organizations is starting to at least ask some questions.

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!

I apologize for shouting. I've been drinking and the music is really loud...

I bet the reporters play this up during the Copenhagen thing. They all love Reverend Al Gore, but they love controversy even more. BTW, will there be bull riding? and will Skoal demand equal time?

A little late to the dance though.

Also the tone of the article , to me anyway, is that while these emails were leaked and it doesn't look good, the science is still valid and we're all doomed.

Unless.

@ Opus - Yes, it's about time, as Chris mentions below, the tone is suspect but it's a start.

@ Fouts - Haha, glad to hear you are having a good time. Bull riding? LOL.

@ Chris - Late to the dance but in attendance nevertheless. This just proves to me that WaPo has to RELUCTANTLY admit that there is something with the story, even though the tone stinks, as should be expected.

Love this line of pure fertilizer: "The e-mails don't say that: They don't provide proof that human-caused climate change is a lie or a swindle."

Oh YES they do, most definitely, weaseling not withstanding.

Besides... There's a market for all those drowned polar bears

Holy alternate reality Batman, looks what's in tomorrow's WaPo.

Obama the mortal
Obama's messianic cult simply expected too much of him.

By Dana Milbank

Closing line "This is what happens when true believers mistake a mortal for a messiah."

@ Ran - I love your post man, I'll link to it and point readers to it. Also at your site, on your blogroll, what does the F.A.R. Tim mean next to the Left Coast Rebel? Just curious...

@ Chris - Holy toledo now that is a link, I'm on it. Thanks a bunch.

@ LCR and Opus: I don't see the WaPo as doing anything other than doing some CYA on this story. For any non-biased observer, AGP is and always has been hooey, schlock science and ultimately nothing more than a means for slickster ex-pols (and soon to be ex-pols) to pad their wallets at the expense of the taxpayer - well, no change there, is there?

@ Ran: "Oh YES they do, most definitely, weaseling not withstanding." You are exactly right!

If they keep up with this man made global warming baloney it’s going to get even worse for Americans. Check out the Sweetness & Light link. UN is full steam ahead they think they can shove this crap down our collective throats.

Rep Thaddeus McCotter explains empirical data and the need for such to claim that Global Warming is anything more than a collectivist theory. Red Eye Video.

McCotter weighs in on Hopenhagen Summit :)
