"A Christmas Story": The House That is Part of Film History

by the Left Coast Rebel

It's that time of year again. A 24 hour run of the Christmas classic "A Christmas Story" is sure to be in the roster again. I don't know about you but "A Christmas Story" is one of my favorite movies, I've probably seen it 25 times; spiked eggnog or not it's always good for a belly laugh and some lighthearted humor. H/T Saberpoint, Fox News has a slideshow of the cast, classic shots and moments from the movie. By the way, the movie cost $4,000,000 to produce in 1983.

What is your favorite scene? I think that I love the "Chinese Turkey" Christmas dinner at the chinese restaraunt the most. You know the one where the workers sing....Fa-ra-ra-ra-ra, rah-rah-rah-rah. Perhaps the scene that led up to the family having to dine out would take my vote. You know, the neighbor's basset hounds eating the Christmas turkey.

Now get this. The movie is such a big part of Americana that the origninal house from the movie has been restored and is now a museum in honor. The leg lamp is even in the window!

My husband and I *love* this movie! It's one of our favorites also.

My favorite scene? It's a tough choice, but I think it's Ralphy in the bathroom decoding the 'secret' message from Ovaltine. My friends and I used to do that too. We went so far as to make up our own 'secret' codes and wrote messages to each other. We thought we were soooo clever. [giggle] Those were happy, innocent days. :)

This movie is one of my favorites also. Ralphy's world is the same one that I grew up in. A world devoid of political correctness and full of enthusiasm and confidence about the future. I got my Red Ryder at age six.

My favorite scene? When Ralphie drops an F-bomb while helping his dad change the tire. When asked by his mom where he heard it, he blurts out "Schwartz!" even though dad said it numerous times a day.

Can't wait for the 24-hour marathon! Thanks LCR!

love it! it's hard for me to pick a favorite scene and all the characters and actors are brilliant. i can't read the word Fragile without thinking of that leg.

It's one of mine too. I listed my top ten Christmas movies today.

By the way, I have the lamp on my Christmas tree, and my sister is getting a Christmas story Christmas this year. Her Christmas presents are themed around the movie.

25 times? That's an awful lot of viewings, eh Reb?

I've seen it a mere 8 or 10 times. Memorable lines: "you'll shoot your eye out, kid." And of course, 'I double dog dare you.'
