Obamacare? Look no Further Than the 'Stimulus': A Personal Note

by the Left Coast Rebel

A few months ago my wife spent some time with friends staying at the Coronado Cays area of Coronado here in San Diego. It's a beautiful spot, right on San Diego harbor; nearby a gorgeous silver-strand stretch of coastline aptly named the Silver Strand. If you ever visit San Diego, it is certainly a spot to check out and perhaps stay if you can pony up the dough. Speaking of a stay, did I mention it is close to the Hotel Del Coronado? Sailing fans rejoice as well. I was enrolled in a certification program for sailorhood but dropped it before finality. I digress, I love to write.

Back to substance and theme. My wife was entertained by a friend in Coronado that she hadn't seen in quite some time. She's actually was visiting from the East Coast. She was on vacation. She speaks her mind in an East Coast sorta-way. She's a life long Democrat. Which is interesting and not, other than a little chit chat jib-jab that I became privy to via Mrs. LCR.

East Coast lady --- "What do you think of Obama and everything that is going on?"

Mrs. LCR --- "Well, I'm concerned that they are doing too much and not thinking through things, I'm just not sure. I think that Obama was elected to clean up the corruption of George Bush and I'm seeing a lot of the same.....I don't know." (brilliant, right? So proud)

East Coast Democrat --- "I know, are you talking about the Stimulus? I mean after all; I can understand that and know what you mean......."
Now granted folks this conversation took place 3-4 months ago. To me, as husband of a smart and beautiful politically astute underground mole, Mrs. LCR gave me a little tidbit of insight from the street level Democrat chit-chat.

That being, the agenda is suspect and the lies, corruption and malfeasance are known. And on this note and title of the post; the connection to today's push to socialize 1/5 of our economy and usher in a new era of statism and crushing of the individual. CNS News shows that by the end of 2009 roughly 78% of the so-called 'stimulus' will still not have been spent. Now that is corruption.

The same 'stimulus' that the Obamanation declared was necessary for immediate passage. Recall him saying that if it wasn't so that America would face an irreversible downturn or some such thing? Well, the same stimulus is hardly spent and unemployment has accelerated beyond any measure. Did I mention that Reid, et al stressed immediate passage as well and didn't even give lawmakers time to read the bill? Such banana-republic incompetence and corruption.

Why in God's name should we trust this bunch to take over our health care as well?

  1. Wow...Mrs. LCR is much more polite to liberals than we are...lol.

I still think it's about time Mrs. LCR posted on LCR!

  2. I know you’re just joking about the undercover stuff; of course you don’t have to go undercover.

The Keynesian idea about using gov’t spending to prevent large unused production capacity (that’s the “disaster” stuff) is something liberals believe in. Unfortuately for Obama, there is also a perception that he has not undone the gov’t corruption we saw during the Bush administration. It’s a tall order, but people had high expectations.

You guys are way off in saying, “Okay you sold us this stimulus, now where’s the booming economy of 1998?” I agree with your wife’s friend though in that I don’t get the idea that this has been handled differently from how the Republicans did things. In both administrations there were legitimate reasons to spend money, and it seemed to be spent based on political influence. I am not that knowledgeable about it, but that’s the feeling I get.

  3. My parents lived in San Diego for several years and I did make it to Coronado. It is beautiful there.

What I find so interesting, revealing and frustrating all at the same time is that the money that wasn't spent on the bailouts is now being viewed as free money by Congress. It's one thing to set money aside and if it doesn't get spent put it back, but it's another to think because it's set aside it can be spent on anything they darn well please. And speaking of the corruption of the Bush administration, which Republican was it that stashed the 60K in his freezer? Oh wait, that was a Democrat.

  4. And I've been hearing rumors of a second stimulus. These guys have no shame.

I've been to Coronado and it is beautiful and so is the historic Hotel Del Coronado. A must see if anyone is in the San Diego area.

  5. What would an example of "corruption" on the part of George Bush be?

    Just curious.

  6. "Why in God's name should we trust this bunch to take over our health care as well?"

Because we let those narcissistic ass-wipes get into power in the first place and, accordingly, we should get what we deserve for allowing that to occur ???

  7. @ C-Gen - I know, I'm trying!

@ CJ - I can see that, I respect your opinion on that. I think that the point with my wife and myself comes down to the fact that Obama's hyped "Hope and Change" has done nothing more than continue the bad policies of GWB, in fact accelerated them.

@ Spinster - Yes, San Diego is pretty, thanks to the real estate bubble bursting, it is a little less expensive too....

@ TCL - Indeed they don't, it's a hostile takeover than noone even knows is happening.

@ Libertarian Adv - Ugh, *faceplant*

@ Chuck - Is this the same Chuck from Dondero's show?
