Last night was a huge win for opposition. Perhaps, though because gridlock that I want; will be back. Virginia was a slam-dunk, even initially. It was shocking to see NJ go GOP. Doug Hoffman put up a great fight and was oh so close to winning. All in all it was about an 80% win last night, a clear referendum of the angst that the country feels.
But I will admit that Hoffman's loss is a tough pill to swallow. Despite the rounding succes of all the other races last, it was a bit of a dissapointment. But we know that it ain't over until the fat lady sings, (or drops out and endorses the liberal dem). The truth is, Doug annihilated the RINO. A clear lesson for the establishment. A win for conservatives. 2 of 3 ain't bad, right?
And I knew that the nation's press would spin the hell out of NY-23, either way. Predictable, but clearly last night the country had the Audacity to say Nope.
Anyone buying that B-O was playing B-Ball? A B-O,B-Ball photo-op may carry more weight sans-suit. An embarassing pretense after this, this and this.
Will the Republican Party hierarchy emerge from the ashes for conservatism? Or will it continue it's suicidal ways?
What does last night tell us?

They really do think we are stupid to think Obama wasn't watching the election returns. He stumped for them how many times, but now he doesn't care? Whatever. He knows what was at stake last night...and it's just the beginning!! Feels like a win to me!
While a Hoffman success would have been nice I do see it as a positive that a "third party" candidate can run and make it a close race. There were a lot of factors that complicate interpretation like the fact that the candidate who dropped out still got 5% of the vote and she endorsed the democrat. I also wonder about Hoffmans electability as an outsider, not a lot of community ties, outsider interference - opposition and support... Despite all that he had a respectable showing.
Basically, and I apologize if I appear to be raining on your party, but with Bloomberg squeeking by with a win against a very lightweight candidate, the Corzine race, and the money and top tier personalities thrown at NY 23, you basicaly have shown that Americans are fed up with 'government as usual' concept of money, power and elites...
Virginia was just a typical off cycle election in Virginia...Bloomberg was supposed to win handily and didn't...Corzine was close but not really a surprise.
Hoffman on the other hand...getting beat by a democrat in a tradition republican district with all the money and big names thrown in that race...which basically backfired.
Obama is still personally popular and at 54% approval ratings after all the money, mud, and viterol that has been thrown at him...
Its still about CHANGE...but it is getting to be more populist which is going to come back to haunt both parties...
i'm not crying conspiracy!!...but why was scuzzy still on the ballot? those 6% may have voted hoffman if it wasn't.
Those who say Obama is still popular, just wait.....all that funny money being printed and pumped into the economy has not come full circle in regards to:
"unintended consequences"
Ahhh, that lovely little disturbing aspect which plagues all of Liberal Progressive Ideology....nothing new under the sun, nothing can be done which hasn't already been done.
Yes, unintented consequences...would that be like "free markets" and then the collapse of our financial system? Or "international trade" as slang for help Communist China become a bigger threat to the US?
yes,unintended consequences
What is your question?
....free markets do work, corrupt people taking advantage, and tinkering with the markets under the guise of doing what is 'right and good' through ridiculous legislation and mandates placed on the free market by the government....DOES NOT work.....
hmmm smells like a stinky bit of dirty laundry the LIBERALS wish to dispose of...and this includes Republicans masquerading as conservatives with their liberal butts hanging out like moons, all the while spending OUR money like drunken sailors
Let's discover who those corrupt forces are lurking behind the mask of "what is best for the common good" and FIRE them all.
Are you suggesting that the Federal Reserve being protected, hidden and shielded from the light is a good thing and we continue to print money like it is cool?
The FEDERAL reserve is NOT A FREE MARKET concept, that garbage was forced on us with the help of some very corrupt and power hungry folks. This nation has paid for it ever since.
Tao, you are not good at this, you respond with questions which are not really questions but a mask for your own seething disdain aimed at any person who challenges your...non-logic
I have seen you in action on RIR....not very akin to the principles of Taoism.....
What makes these stories amazing. NJ, there was rampage fraud, ACORN and their thugs out in drove to get out the votes and intiminate voters and a God Aweful governor with approval rating that would make Bush look like the most popular politican on the planet with votes that was early and really often still lost. As for Hoffman, the 5% that RINO got was from the abscentee ballots that were sent before she was exposed. I wonder how many wished they had their vote back? If the exposure of this RINO had come BEFORE the abscentees were sent, Hoffman gets those votes, or even perhaps 1/2. 1/2 of those votes would had been enough for him to win the seat. The lesson here, don't just do "we not the Democrats" campaining. Stick to the conservative value, go for the democrats and RINO's juggular and don't let up. We have a golden opportunity to dodge the biggest bullet this country has faced since the War of 1812. If conservative Republicans blow this and the Democrats and RINO's hold the majority of both houses, then it will be over because they, including the President, won't fear anything and will push every socialist and statist agenda through.
@ Being right - It is just that, great points.
@ MO - Indeed, it sure was close though.
@ TAO - I hope the populist ends up being those like Hoffman, Rand Paul, Peter Shcivv, and Marc Rubio among others.
@ Labcat - I know, it stinks.
@ Unclogged - You go! Great points.
@ Madmath - I couldn't agree more, I love your War of 1812 analogy.
