First, an answer to your query. No, the title is not an endorsement of Dobbs 2012 by I but it is an aknowledgement of his aspiration to run. According to the NY Daily News, Lou Dobbs was interviewed this morning on a local DC station. The exchange went like this, the reference of 'crazy' at the beginning being on the so-called crazy-talk of him running for the Presidency:
For what it is worth, I always considered Dobbs as more of a Populist than a conservative. However, his stances on merely illegal immigration and our runaway debt would earn him my vote. What do you think?“What’s so crazy about that?” Dobbs, 64, replied. “Golly!”
So, is it crazy talk or is it real, the radio station persisted.“Well, I’ll tell you this much -- it’s one of the discussions that we’re having,” he said. “For the first time, I’m actually listening to some people about politics.”
“I don’t think I’ve got the nature for it,” he added. “[But] we’ve got to do something in this country and I think that being in the public arena means you’ve got to be part of the solution.”
UPDATE: Politico has a new story up pertaining to this.
Though Dobbs's criticism of the Obama administration and his famously conservative views on illegal immigration have raised the prospect he could run for office as a Republican, he has staked out a rhetorical position that places him outside both parties. In 2007, he penned a book titled, "Independents Day: Awakening the American Spirit," and in his final CNN broadcast, Dobbs took broad aim at a political culture "defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than by rigorous, empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion."

ReplyDeleteIt is too much to hope for...
I don't buy into his populist schtick either, but he'd be 1000x better than Obama.
ReplyDeleteThe guy is a garden variety demagogue. The Amero?
ReplyDelete@ Sue - Cool.
ReplyDelete@ RK - Agreed but boy do I love him on corruption and illegal immigration.
@ Chuck - Populist? Yes. Demagogue? I disagree.
