Another example of the country running from the agenda of the Obamanation and Congress, a new poll out today from Gallup shows that a majority of Americans don't think HC coverage is up to the government:

This is astounding considering the high in 2007, as you can see in the above chart. My take on the shift is that Americans have been made aware of the downside of a government takeover of our health care system. From Gallup:
This year, in the midst of robust debate on a potentially imminent healthcare reform law, the percentage of Americans agreeing that it is the government's responsibility to make sure everyone has health insurance has fallen even further, by seven points, to 47%. Half of Americans now say this is not the government's responsibility. The reason behind this shift is unknown. Certainly the federal government's role in the nation's healthcare system has been widely and vigorously debated over the last several months, including much focus on the "public option." These data suggest that one result of the debate has been a net decrease in Americans' agreement that ensuring all Americans have healthcare coverage is an appropriate role for the federal government.
So this is simple here for me:
Americans aren't stupid....
There's no such thing as a free lunch.....

It's amazing how much people think differently when A. they realize they have to pay for it. B. They quit watching NBC and C. They have lost their job because of Obama or seen taxes triple already in their state.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I like the new look.
ReplyDeleteAlso, we fired back at the Kos today bigtime.
"There's no such thing as a free lunch....."
ReplyDeleteYeah, and when you kill the cow for a quick steak, there ain't no more milk, folks!
It can be proven in the Constitution using Federalist #41 to define the General Welfare clause and the 18 enumerated powers it's not at all the responsibility. I don't care about polls. I care about facts that can be proven. This one is easily proven despite what Claire McCaskill's own definition of the General Welfare clause is.
ReplyDeleteIf this is true, it’s a really good sign for those of us who want gov’t out of healthcare. I would expect people to want to rely on the government more during a recession. My only guess as to the reason for the change is that when people were asked the question prior to Obama, they imagined slow incremental change. Now they imagine a sweeping overhaul. I’m guessing people want the gov’t to take responsibility for parts of healthcare but not to overhaul it completely.
ReplyDelete(That’s my guess as to what other people are thinking, not my personal opinion.)
"Gallup Poll: Majority Think Health Care Coverage Not Government Responsibility"
ReplyDeleteThe words "government," and "responsibility, should never be used in the same sentence; unless of course, you are speaking of lack of.
