Dede Scozzafave Supports Democrat Bill Owens NY-23: Transcript of Scozzafava Statement

by the Left Coast Rebel

A shocking headline that isn't quite so shocking, Dede Scozzafava + Democrat Owens are a match. I caught this news on the way home on the I-Phone. The Other McCain has the Hoffman camp press release on this news:

Surprise Surprise: Dede is a democrat -- sells out the GOP for the
liberal agenda of Nancy Pelosi

Statement from Doug Hoffman
Campaign:
Senior Communications Advisor Rob Ryan said, "This afternoon Dede Scozzafava betrayed the GOP. She endorsed a Pelosi Democrat who will spend more, tax more, and push the liberal agenda that is dragging down this nation. Doug Hoffman represents the revolution that is taking place against high taxes. Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are desperate. They are throwing everything they
have at us but we're fighting back. The voters now know what Dede Scozzafava and Bill Owens believe in—the liberal agenda of Nancy Pelosi."

In my opinion it is not pols like Dede Scozzafava that have betrayed the GOP, it is the power-strucure elite and brand-name win at all cost Newtered Gingrich's of the world that have done so. Without top power-broker GOP elites and the money that comes with it, there wouldn't be very many radical leftist/progressive Repuclicans, would there? The other points in the release are exactly right, why should I even add more to this post? I could just stop right there but there are a few other things that I was thinking on my drive home and other developments that I want to point out.

So Dede went within the realm of liberal possibilty and supported the man; liberal Democrat Bill Owens, that shares her philosophy. She points to, without explicitly stating it; the local-appeal of Owens as well. Here is the transcript of her statement:

I want to thank you for your support and friendship. Over the past 24 hours, I have had encouraging words sent to my family and me.Many of you have asked me whom you should support on Tuesday.

Since announcing the suspension of my campaign, I have thought long and hard about what is best for the people of this District, and how to answer your questions. This is not a decision that I have made lightly.

You know me, and throughout my career, I have been always been an independent voice for the people I represent. I have stood for our honest principles, and a truthful discussion of the issues, even when it cost me personally and politically. Since beginning my campaign, I have told you that this election is not about me; it’s about the people of this District.

It is in this spirit that I am writing to let you know I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same. It’s not in the cards for me to be your representative, but I strongly believe Bill is the only candidate who can build upon John McHugh's lasting legacy in the U.S. Congress. John and I worked together on the expansion of Fort Drum and I know how important that base is to the economy of this region. I am confident that Bill will be able to provide the leadership and continuity of support to Drum Country just as John did during his tenure in Congress.

In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests
first.

Please join me in voting for Bill Owens on Tuesday. To address the tough challenges ahead, we must rise above partisanship and politics and work together. There's too much at stake in this election to do otherwise.

  1. Maybe just maybe the folks in this district like RINO's?

For a group of people who are constantly harping about how Obama is shoving socialism down your throats you sure do not mind doing the same to people on the local level when it is to your own benefit...

This district was represented by a RINO for quite a while and did vote for Obama in 2008.

So, you will end up with your party purity but no power....

  2. TAO - Glad to see you are still reading my blog. You know me better than to think that I stand for socialism at any level, local or not. I don't think that a Hoffman vote of support is a lost-cause as you seem to be saying here. He has a great shot at this race, 50/50 or better at this point.

Being that Scozafava is just as liberal if not more so than the Democrat, then I would rather have it a race and clear delineation between a statist and one that is not.

I feel the same about the Rand Paul race as well.

  3. The point is, you live in California and the election is in upstate New York...yet all because of the wonder of cable news and the internet we have turned a local election into an international event.

Its not for you or me to decide who best represents the people of that district...it is for them to decide.

Because when the election is over you move on, Armey moves on, Palin moves on, and guess what, you, just like everyother political movement will move onto other things...

The issue isn't socialism but rather representative government and a House member represents a district and I wonder how many of those folks are going to revolt against the 'carpetbagger' candidate and realize that they are nothing more than pawns in a battle to control the Republican party...

Save the 'socialism' schtick for someone that buys it...we both know that corporatism is what is going on and neither party is all that different from the other inregards to bloated corporate interests...

I will tell you the same thing I told Rand Paul...if he wants my vote he needs to run on a third party ticket because as a Republican he is, if elected, the junior senator...

  4. @ TAO - An international event. So what? I am perfectly entitled to pontificate on my blog and send money, (as I did), to candidates like Doug Hoffman that I think stand for turning back the statism that has increased @ a clip of 10x under the Obamanation.

I think you are missing the forest for the trees here on what I think, which is ok of course, BTW.

Rand Paul will not govern any differently with an 'R' next to his name, as opposed to an 'I' next to his name. Rand is the essence of what the libertarian/limited govt wing of the party stands for and used to have dominance with.

  5. @ TAO - Also, I don't agree with everything re: Hoffman, ie. some social issues and his stance on illegal immigration.
