Barbie Burkha or Burkha Barbie?

by the Left Coast Rebel

Either way, how's that for a headline? Anyone want to know the ultimate irony about the Barbie Burkha, Burkha Barbie? They were created for a Sotheby's "Save the Children" auction. Via Memeorandum, from the dailymail.UK:

One of the world's most famous children's toys, Barbie, has been given a makeover - wearing a burkha.

The company director of Laird Assessors from The Wirral, Cheshire, said: 'Bring it on Burkha Barbie, I think this is a great idea.

'I think this is really important for girls, wherever they are from they 'I know Barbie was something seen as bad before as an image for girls, but in actual fact the message with Barbie for women is you can be whatever you want to be.

'I have a Barbie in a wheelchair that was only out for six weeks.'

Behold:

well it will only be true to life if they make the muslim ken version with a carpet beater or stick in his hand. Plus the muslim ken doll needs to have a Qur'an in his hands...

Muhsin Khan 4:34
: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband's absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband's property, etc.). As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful), but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great.

Barbie sure is coming up in the world! she gets to wear a bedsheet with mosquito netting....and enjoy a nice sound beating....

to heck with that corvette and swimming pool, it is off to the good life baby

Maybe it's supposed to be ironic. Who knows what's going on in the mind of this famous Italian designer who's dressing up a doll this way. And for Mattel, maybe any publicity is good publicity.

From what I've seen Barbie is a lowbrow toy whose buyers are unlikely even to hear about this designer or see the irony. Some designer dressing Barbie in a Burka is not going to improve Barbie's image for liberals, who will not let their kids play with Barbies no matter how they're dressed. The only way it helps Mattel is it gets people like us talking about their product.

@ BB - Indeed.

@ Unclogged - Nice verse from the religion of 'peace' I'll use that for future reference.

@ CJ - Yeah, that is probably the point, a sales gimmick. I wouldn't let my daughter play with a Barbie either and as you know I'm hardly liberal. BTW, did you see that I 'almost' made it onto the (audience) of Stossel's new show?

One can only imagine the utter horror and dismay the late and truly great Winston Churchill would feel were he to witness the slide of his once GREAT BRITAIN into the gutter of utterly pathetic P.C. pandering to Islamic "sensibilities". Gordon Brown and his Labour clique are true IDIOTS.

This is just bad marketing. How are they going to sale the Barbe dream car if she can't drive?
