Louisiana Attorney General - ACORN Embezzlement Five Million Dollars

by the Left Coast Rebel

What's the saying about an ACORN? From small ACORNS mighty oaks grow..........
Breaking tonight, I am reading @ Biggovernment.com via. Memeorandum the $1 million dollar amount embezzled from ACORN, (by ACORN President's mafioso brother Dale Rathke), was closer to $5 million. From Biggovernment -

An internal review by the board of directors of the community organization ACORN determined that the amount allegedly embezzled from the community organization was $5 million, well more than the previously reported amount of nearly $1 million, according to a new subpoena in an investigation by Louisiana Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

Biggovernment is actually linking to the source of this news, Nola.com out of Louisiana. From Nola.com -

Caldwell said last month that the statute of limitations presented
obstacles to prosecutors taking action on the embezzlement, and that his
investigation was not focused on that issue. The
subpoena issued Monday changed the tone of the investigation and put a new emphasis on the embezzlement issue.

"Current high-ranking members of ACORN have publicly acknowledged that
embezzlement did in fact occur, but the exact amount of the embezzlement was
unknown until it was recently acknowledged in a board of directors meeting on Oct. 17, 2008, by Bertha Lewis and Liz Wolf that an internal review had determined that the amount embezzled was $5 million, " the new subpoena
says.

UPDATE: Cliff @ Another Black Conservative has a nice roundup on the story , he writes -

The more I read about all these separate state investigations (like the latest revelation in Nevada) and the House and Senate’s willingness to cut funds, the more I think ACORN maybe toast. Even with all its hydra like qualities, there are just too many people starting to look at ACORN for what it is … a criminal enterprise.
Update: Via Memeorandum and the Hill, Michelle Bachmann has just come out calling for a 'strong investigation' into non-profits in the wake of myriad ACORN corruption stories. From the Hill -
"We need a strong investigation into nonprofits," she said in a conference call with conservative bloggers hosted by the Heritage Foundation. "No political party should be funded through a quote 'nonprofit.' "

"Without [government] money they would not be in existence," she added.

The conservative congresswoman said that "we've only started to scratch the surface" of allegations into ACORN's use of public funds to electioneer. Many Republicans have accused ACORN of committing voter registration fraud during the 2008 election, during which the community organization backed President Barack Obama.

Bachmann also accused ACORN of wrongly playing a role in the close Minnesota Senate race. After several recounts, Al Franken (D-Minn.) prevailed over incumbent Norm Coleman (R).

She called ACORN a "cold storage unit for campaign people to elect Democrats."

the way things are going lately, the Dems may not even nominate Obama for reelection. they have a habit of throwing losers under the bus also and Obama is beginning to look more like a loser every day.
of course this is only speculation yet but i'd take the odds in Vegas on it.
