Jimmy Carter on Racist Obama Critics - "I Didn't Say That!"

by the Left Coast Rebel

Backtracking, backpedalling and ample foot in mouth from the Peanut,(farmer), today. From Politico today -

Former President Jimmy Carter insisted Thursday that he did not say
protests against President Barack Obama were driven by raaaaaacism.

“By the way, that’s not what I said,” Carter interjected as he was being
asked about the comment. “If you read the remarks carefully, you’ll see that’s
not what I said.”

h/t to Carol at No Sheeples Here for the montage that shows Carter's inability to be truthful.

  1. Jimmy Carter: Still trying to be relevant. He's become the crazy uncle who lives in the attic.

  2. First of all, he’s a very smart man, because he uses big words, and does so with that accent that makes me have to ponder what word he is saying, and rewind to hear it a couple of times before I get it. It’s definitely one of many qualities that make you eligible for President.

And I have to say that making fun of his eye…c’mon man, don’t you know you’re not being diverse when you point out differences?

But anyway, let’s just break it down. He says ‘An overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man’.

Overwhelming : tending or serving to overwhelm as in overwhelming force, also : extreme, great : an overwhelming majority

Then he recants by saying ‘..That’s not what I said. I said those that had a personal viTUPerative attack on President Obama as a person…THAT was tinged by racism’

tinged: to be affected or modified in character
    (not quite overwhelming huh)

vituperative: uttering or given to censure : containing or characterized by verbal abuse (this is just a new word for me and I had to look it up)

Maybe I need to go back and ‘read the remarks carefully’ (as if hearing them and reading them are different), but is he saying that he wasn’t saying the ‘vast majority of those’ [who disagree] are racist (or tinged by it)?

So only the crazies are the overwhelming portion? I disagree with Obama, but I feel better now…I think. Wait, did he just redefine ‘is’?

  3. @ Writer X - So True!

@ Steve - I couldn't resist the 'eye-thing', took it down because you are right though, it distracts the eyes from this article. :).

Nice writeup you have here. I caution you however. The use of defintitions and facts don't hold a candle to intentions and emotions. And even though he said what he did and then said that the didn't, it matters not.

For his heart is in the right place. All I add to that is that he better keep his eye, (no pun), on the ball, in this internet age, comments are quickly lined up against eachother and it's not easy to get away with a 'fib'. After all it's not 1975 anymore.......
