2016 Olympics in Rio - No Chicago Olympics for Obama, Just Why I am Happy

by the Left Coast Rebel

So let me set the record straight here. I am not celebrating the fact that the Olympic Games will not take place on American soil in 2016. I am not celebrating the fact that Brazil was chosen over the United State, Rio versus Chicago. I am not jumping for joy that athletes, fans from worldwide and the wealth-production that comes with the games will not grace US shores.....
What I am celebrating though, is the simple law of gravity -
Things tend to fall downward.....

And this simple, infallible law points me to the seemingly infallible ego of a Boy-Wonder President-egomaniac, that is fallable. Not a messiah, nor a Philosopher King (despite coronary media adulation from day one). Not a Saviour, (already got one of those, thanks). Not a parter of the seas - by his mere presence.

That he cannot take something that has worked better than any other for over 200 years 'because he said so'.

This has nothing to do with the Olympics for me.

This has everything to do with fresh hope in stopping this man.
This international scene today proves just that.
UPDATE: Memeorandum today is running a lead story from the Washington Monthly pointing to 'conservative's glee' about the Olympics fiasco. The piece points to conservative's collective joy over America failing. Please. Don't fall for it. Remember my points above. Taken from that article -

CONSERVATIVES' OLYMPIC GLEE CONTINUES.... It seems likely that
conservative delight over the International Olympic Committee awarding the 2016 games to Rio will fade rather quickly. There's just not much to keep their joy going -- the United States sought the Olympics, made it to the final round, but came up short. American satisfaction over an American setback has a short shelf life, even on the right.

  1. I hear you. I feel the same way about the decision. What I can't understand is the decision for BO to go to Copenhagen without the fix being in for $hitcago. Is that stoopid, or what?

  2. I'd be for the Olympics coming to the states when we as a country can prove we will be financially solvent and we Americans can trust our government to do the right thing with our tax dollars. The Olympics are usually an expense not a gain. There are exceptions. The President's priorities are out of whack.

  3. @ Cube - Well said.

@ Steve - Great points, after I put this up someone on another blog mentioned the same, that the Games are actually an expense to most countries that take part. I didn't know that. Just another reason to celebrate then.

  4. BO took along his entourage, but forgot Mr. Teleprompter!! No wonder his words were listless, his visage uninspired. He was Babe Ruth without a bat, Michael Jordan without a b-ball, Oprah without a fork.
A sad thing to imagine really...the poor Mr Teleprompter, standing alone at the boarding gate, ticket in hand, sadly left behind....

  5. Odd how Europe, when faced with a hostile world and no America to back or protect them, quickly makes it clear to even a dolt that limp wristing the only real world power is simply unacceptable. Of course, quota boy might actually really believe this is due to racism.

Speaking of racism, I wonder if Ayers will write his next book too. He seems unable to get a brother to do the writing (even he is a racist!). Ah, I have the title "Black Men Can't Write". Ha!

  6. @ Dugdan - You are onto something there, the funny thing is that I never thought he would ever do anything without TOTUS....

@ Doom - We live in bizarre, dark times my friend. I love your disclaimer here, awesome.

  7. I have been at a grassroots activist meeting today. We were in an internet class when the news came in. The entire room stood up and cheered.

Some cities do make money. Salt Lake City did.

The reality is that some Obama's Chicago buddies were in place to make a small fortune had they gotten the olympics. That is why I cheered. I have been to Rio. It is a great city. It was a good choice.

  8. I hear ya...

I was at work listening to Rush and was elated at the no Olympics news.

All by myself :) You have such a great blog. Love all your hard work.

  9. It's Bush's fault that it didn't work out you know. At least according to Roland Burris.

  10. My co-workers and I were extremely happy when we heard the news. The US has had the games twice in the last 30 years (Atlanta & SLC), so it's time to let another country have them, particularly one that hasn't had the opportunity in the past.

In addition, I have to say that it's refreshing to see the international community, which was falling all over itself a little more than a year ago as ObaMao was campaigning for King of the World, has finally begun to wake up, and to deny him what he wanted just because he said it must be so.

We can we only hope that, as the headline said yesterday: "The Ego Has Landed"

  11. I especially liked the Drudge Report's title "The Ego has Landed." How perfect

  12. I don't understand...I thought lefties wanted America to become a more humble member of the international community. How many times have we already had the Olympics? Nine times?

Welcome to the post-American world Mr. post-American president!

Take home lesson: be careful what you wish for...
