Hopson V. Commissioner of Internal Revenue - Turbotax Timothy Geithner

by the Left Coast Rebel

Anyone aware of this story dated August 26 from Bloomberg here?

Excerpt -

A federal court rejected an attempt by two Ohio residents to use the so-called TurboTax defense that Timothy Geithner relied on to help win Senate confirmation as U.S. Treasury Secretary.

The U.S. Tax Court in Washington rejected an appeal of accuracy-based penalties assessed by the Internal Revenue Service on Kenneth and Linda Hopson, who claimed they relied on tax-return preparation software that failed to detect income they had omitted from their 2006 federal tax returns.

One simple word comes to my mind, OLIGARCHY.

On many levels, for whom it is supposed to work for; (the taxpaying productive citizen), our government simply doesn't work any more. There is one set of rules for our rulers, one set for the serfs. Ostensibly Turbotax Geithner should have been prosecuted, or in the least held to the same standard as any citizen for his tax-infringement. Anything otherwise is tyrannical, ludicrous, dangerous and antithetical to what America should stand for. We are not, (or shouldn't be), a nation of serfs to be ruled by a ruling-class. And by the way this is a Democrat and a Republican issue, both parties are culpable on this offense.

As I said many months ago when this issue came to light with Timmy the Tax Dodger, (hat-tip No Sheeples), an ordinary citizen would be prosecuted and incarcerated for breaking the tax laws in such a manner. I would go to prison most likely, so would you.

One set of rules for them, one for you and I; the opposite of that which our Founders envisioned.

Disclaimer : At the behest of Smitty over at The Other McCain, I am adding a disclaimer to this post stating that -

  • I in no way condone dodging or evading taxes.
  • I in no way support said dodge or evasion by attending court in one's defense, based on the illegitimate defense of our crooked leaders.
  • Just because our leaders are above the law, (as Smitty says, a shredded condom-law at this point), doesn't mean that we are. Don't fool around with your taxes. If you screw up with your Turbotax software, you as an individual are liable. Remember that. Unlike Timmy, you will be prosecuted, fined, beheaded and disemboweled or otherwise.

  1. Scary, isn't it. Thanks to all those middle aged white women panting & swooning over the Big "O" and voting for him, now our lives are controlled by marxist fascists. I know who they are too, because some of them have started trying to quiet me at my blog. "It ain't workin' doll face." I get from them "Oh, how can talk about him like that?!" It's really humourous.

Anyway, these politicans think they're better than us. They're elitists and elitists always end up falling on their swords.

  2. Oligarchy indeed. He isn't the only one, though. Charlie Rangel seems to have been caught with his pants down again.

Funny how people are always trying to make the rules politicians play by apply to them.

I remember in the 90s a military officer tried to use the lewinsky defense under the guise of calling Clinton the Commander in Chief of the Military. While this it is true that he was, no one serving thought of him as Commander in Chief.

  3. It started by playing the race card in congress and then became a you rub my back, I'll rub yours. Now it's you grease my palm and I'll grease yours. Why do we continue to tolerate this and re-elect these crooks, thieves, and hypocrites over and over (on average, 94% of incumbents get re-elected). Perhaps there's a good reason why government thinks the voters are stupid: by their voting record, they are. The truth is that the districts are so gerrymandered and rigged to cater to the closed minded, ignorant, bigoted citizens to have such a majority that their election is guaranteed (just got to Compton to understand why that evil, racist, stupid ugly b*tch Maxine Waters always win). As long as we let the wolves not only guard the chicken coop but write the rules as well, things can only get worse.

  4. Well, you wouldn't go to prison, but you would pay the back taxes, interest, and accuracy penalties. Yet, were you up for nomination to Secretary of the Treasury, your nomination should be rejected. In fact, had he applied for a job with the Internal Revenue Service, or any other civilian government job, his application would be denied.

  5. I'd add a disclaimer that this post is not seriously encouraging any law-breaking, irrespective of what a shredded condom that law might be.
    Just my personal taste.

  6. I'm gonna use the "My dog ate my taxes" excuse for not having filed for the past three years. I figure that'll put me on the short list for the Cement Shoes Czar position.

  7. @ Sparky - It is scary and ridiculous that we would stand for this stuff.

@ Blue - Great analogy, I remember that case as well.

@ madmath - Couldn't have said it better myself.

    @ Larry Walker - Appalling isn't it?

@ Smitty - I'll do that, my point, as you can tell, is that ordinary citizens tried to use the 'turbotax' defense and came up with the short end of the stick. I wouldn't have encouraged them to even bring the case up because to me it would be apparent where that would lead. I'll add a disclaimer just in case though, thanks......

@ Nickie Goomba - WOW, you are onto something.

  8. Nicely done on the addendum. Per Alinsky Rule #5, you can twist the knife twice the number of roatations that way.
As I saw on a bumper sticker yesterday: "If the people lead, the leaders will follow."
