Last night I caught a headline that the Cash for Clunkers program had already run out of money; that it was finished, finito, in the junkyard here. Word was, even last night; that the program was going to be closed. Hooray, I thought, a 1 billion hit on future generations, (twice that when interest on the debt is tabulated, remember we are broke) is coming to a close, I hope we can be so lucky with Cap and Tax and Lenin Care.
Not so fast.
I'm watching Cspan at the moment, (9:20 am Pacific), up for vote is an additional 2 billion in debt-financed generational thievery.
Why?
Democrats, liberal Republicans on the House floor this morning -
- Rep from Wisconsin - "The marketplace has spoken! Congress is doing it's part to stimulate!"
- GOP rep from Michigan - "The auto industry is going to bring the US out of this recession! This bill is the best thing we have ever done, ever!"
- Dem rep from Michigan - "The rush to use this program shows it's need, what else do we need to see?"
- Dingellberry from Michigan - "This is a great problem to have amidst all of our problems, (the program running out of money), we cannot stall on changes to this program, I urge passage of this bill!"
Lone conservative rep, (from California no-less) -
- "If Congress got the cost so wrong on this and we now need 3x as much, how can we be trusted on health care reform?"
Pertinent pictures -

A once proud gas guzzler, taxpayer skeletal remains gathering dust inside to this day.........

Porky pig reps at the trough. Will their appetite for socialism ever be satiated? Can you spot Pelosi, Waxman, Reid, Barney, Maxine Waters, Murtha, my own Filner, Conyers?

Our economy and freedoms on the edge of a cliff, taxpayer and Constitution trapped inside.
A RINO's fate, at the hands of a taxpayer at his wits end. Fitting that a RINO would be finished off by a Clunker........

None of these clowns can add because of the calculators in school, right? You're not old enough to remember that debate about allowing calculators in the public schools and I used to laugh about this but now I think they were onto something ... no one can add anymore!! Especially our so called Representatives (in name only because they're certainly not "representing" us anymore). Grrrr!
ReplyDeleteBTW it's sad but most all our Rep's and Senators are Dingelberry's.
Good post. :)
Another wealth redistribution scam. I think I'll go Galt for a couple of months.
ReplyDeleteI could live without getting a new car for a while. But, since this oppurtunity has presented itself, I am going to go the dealership to see how this works. Will blog about it soon.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that with all of the .gov successes in buying back guns, that anyone would be against a car buy-back scheme.
ReplyDeleteGeesh.
(/Snark mode off.)
Wish I could get $4500 for my SKS. it only gets 10 rds/box mag, and I'd be halfway to a Barrett.
(BTW:keep up the good work yerself!)
I don't know if it is a good thing or not, it doesn't smell right to me. One interesting thing that has become very apparent is that putting money in the hands of consumers gets into the economy a LOT faster than bailing out failing companies and selective allocation done by government bureaucracies to supportive constituents...
ReplyDeleteOn C-Span today, some chickie from Michigan with an "R" after her name was saying how this program helped give people jobs and saved dealerships, blah...blah...blah....and how this program can't be allowed to die...blah...blah...
ReplyDeleteIf anyone can name ONE THING the government has touched that hasn't been spoiled by corruption and has done better than a free-market solution, please tell me.
BTW...Murtha is the one on the far right with his butt in Bawney Fwank's face.
What a waste of taxpayer money!! The Dems got junk cars wrong and now they want us to trust them with our lives-health care. I wouldn't trust a Democrat's judgement if he/she were the only other person besides me left on earth.
ReplyDeleteGood photo showing us all the Democratic pigs. They are quite wasteful animals.
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how wasteful a program is that the perceived solution is to always waste more. It's like looking at a house on fire and being dumbfounded that all that gasoline you poured on it didn't put the fire out.
ReplyDeleteIt's MY money buying YOUR car! Just call me selfish for not wanting to do that.
ReplyDeleteBesides, here's what's going on. Trade in "clunker", get new "gas efficient model", which may only get 2 MPG better mileage, sell new car, buy what you want.
That is if the car dealerships aren't scamming the whole thing to begin with. I sold cars and know of what I speak...
@ Sparky - I know, it is maddening.
ReplyDelete@ Rightklik - We all need to go Galt.
@ cons girl - Let me know how that goes.
@ Sean Galt - Thanks!
@ Mo - I agree but your premise is incorrect. Our government should not be in the business of robbing Peter to pay Paul. If they just left things alone we could rise out of our recession.
@ blackandgold - I saw the same lady of which you speak, how pathetic. Note my RINO car accident, I wish this upon her. Nice of you to spot Murtha....
@ Teresa - The are wasteful,smelly too.
@ Carl - Great point, they will never learn.
@ Adrienne - But it's stimulus!!! Come on, we should dig holes and then fill them back up, we can create jobs!
Have to disagree. The clunker program is an example of Adam Smith's 'invisible hand' helping Detroit-- unlike the $70B auto bailout.
ReplyDeleteMatthew, the clunker program is an example of Karl Marx's hand, strangling Detroit! :)
ReplyDeleteAs for that car on top of that boulder, has anyone gotten an estimate for repairs? :)
Cash for Clunkers seems like the typical program that scam artist take advantage of. Something tells me in a few months we will find that the government wasted billions on cars that were shortly destined for the junk heap anyway.
ReplyDeleteShoot, they've quadrupled our National debt with stimulus, or should I say Porkulus bill and got that one wrong. BADLY! Now, as they never learn if you give something for nothing or free, you get a lot more people than expected with costs a lot higher as they learned (or still whallowing in denial) with this cash for clunkers which was misleading. You only got the $4500 if you bought a new car (ie, kiss the UAWer's ass). Heck just give me the cash so I can buy 4 more from the junk yard and trade them in for more cash. That way, I'll be out of my ressession in about a few months and the stimulus would be in MY pockets, not the dems cronies.
ReplyDelete@ Matthew - I respectfully disagree with you. Adam Smith's 'invisible hand' is a concept based on free individuals in the free marketplace making free choices. Not bean counters handing out goodies to skew the marketplace. If they can dole out cash for the auto industry, why not help my industry too? Why not give people money for appliances? Ceiling fans? Boomboxes?
ReplyDelete@ - Stogie - Not sure what the estimate would be, it is eligible for the $4500 though!
@ Clifton - Yup, great point.
@ Madmath - What can I say? You nailed it.
